Wedding Decor

Hannah, on August 14, 2019 at 21:37 Posted in DIY 0 8
I need some help with decor for my wedding and reception. I wanted to do the decor myself and get some things, any ideas? Is it best to hire someone to come in and do the decor or should I do it myself?

Depends how much you want. we rented everything under the sun and it only cost 3K. like im talking massive backdrop, bride and groom chair, stage decor, centerpeices, candles etc. i would find some pics of stuff you like and then see what it would cost to buy it and then go to a decor person and see if they can do it cheaper .

If say it depends on what you want in regards to decor and if you realistically think you'd be able to do it. Would you have help? If you think you can make it happen and you have support of say go for it. You'll be proud of the work when you see your results.

I think it depends on how big your wedding is and how much DIY you want to do. My wedding is very small and I am doing a bunch of my own stuff.
I would look at Facebook wedding websites for second hand things (to save money). Most of the stuff on there has only been used for a wedding so it’s still in great shape.
If you have a wedding party, get them to help you! I did everything myself cause I don’t have anyone to help me lol. Also, start early! I started my projects about 7 months before the wedding. This will save you a ton of stress if something doesn’t work out or you don’t have time to finish.

I am DIY-ing as MUCH as possible...

I ordered silk flowers from China and am building the bouquets myself.

I am collecting items for and putting the centrepieces together - I'm even making my own table numbers!

I'm making my own seating chart and the name tags for the place settings.

I built and painted my own card box, complete with our wedding logo, which I had to make a stencil for.

I'm doing all my own signage.

When I say "I" and "myself" I of course am including my wonderful wedding party and friends. I have a friend who is a DIY genius and has been very helpful with all of this, and I also have a friend who is a graphic designer and has been a huge help with things like save-the-dates, invitations, etc. (all custom done and just printed at Staples).

The number one thing you have to decide is if the time you will be putting into these projects is worth it. Time is money, after all!

    Good luck!

My only advice is figure out what you are doing before you go to Michaels! I went in "to just look" walked out spending more then I should have and now I have a bunch of half projects that idk if I want to do. When in doubt, fairy lights Smiley smile.

I mean, DIY is great - but it depends on what it is and how much effort will need to be put into it.

Flowers - doable if fake imo

Signs - for sure doable. I got some cheap clearance chalk boards from Michaels and also some chalk paint. I will have a few signs but then paint a wood palette.

Centre pieces - well, depends on what kind. I am doing long tables so I'm renting table runners but DIY'ing the rest.
