Wedding Decor

Hey there!

My wedding is coming up in July, I am just wondering how many out there are doing most of the decor themselves? I'm doing a rustic theme and we're going to put everything together for a back yard wedding, and I'm just looking for ideas or suggestions for cute decorations, presentations, floral arrangements etc. We are making a wagon wheel chandelier with mason jars and clear crystals, and succulents are the flowers we've chosen, so they will be on the wedding cake and cupcakes.

Let me know if you have any ideas that might help!

We booked an amazing Alexandra Park venue near Auckland for our wedding. Their staff will help us with decorations and menu and will supply all necessary equipment. I heard many positive reviews about this service so I hope everything will be perfect.

That all sounds amazing! We are renting two whiskey barrels that have black metal rings, and purchasing a third barrel with a tabletop overlay and a cupboard in the side of it, and a hole for an umbrella. A few of my friends have recently been married and are donating all kinds of stuff to us, which is fantastic! My stepdad went up north to their property up there and cut me a bunch of wooden slabs, but I think they are too dried out to use (and coarsely cut so it would take a lot of work to get them into shape!) I'm thinking come May when the weather gets better, we are going to have a great time putting everything together. 101 days and counting!!!

Nothing wrong with that! I'm pretty creative but it definitely helps to have some ideas. Pinterest is great but it's awesome to hear all these ideas from lovely brides who are planning just like me!

I’m doing rustic as well! My parents had wagon wells going to place around diff spots and then my work let me borrow these trees that light up, it’s birch bass and sparking white branches, we also did mason jar themed centre pieces, borrowed a backdrop from a friend, the photo area we made a backdrop with the old school fencing as well

We’re having a farm wedding and renting a tent so we’ve had to think of some creative ways to decorate. Our family is helping out a lot. Our centrepieces are are going to be on wooden slabs (my MOH has an oak tree we’re going to cut from) with mason jars, babies breath and candles. We’ve purchased string lights from a wedding buy and sell page as well as a dance floor. Our cake/ cupcake stand is wood panted and wrapped with burlap and lace as well as some vases. Some of our signs are hand made and some are purchased because home sense had some really cute ones. We’re making our wine and labels. I’ve rented some wine barrel tables. My grandpa is making our cardbox. His aunt has a greenhouse and is planting and doing some flower arrangements for us. We’re using Shepard’s hooks with jars and babies breath for the ceremony as well. We are decorating an old ladder haha I could go on an on!

We went with a decorator because I knew I wouldn't be able to pull the whole thing together on my own. I did do a few DIY projects though, like the table numbers, our favours and our invites.

Some of these are great ideas! We're not doing too much decor as our venue is stunning and doesn't need it, but I've pulled in most our decor myself. I won't be setting it up day of though, our venue will do that. I'll take pictures of how I want it set up in advance and give that to them.

Like Brittany we have done a mirror entrance sign (found it on a buy and sell FB group for cheap). I also bought Shepard Hooks, frames and used curtain ties with jewels on the end (stapled them to the frames) to hang them! They'll line our pathway to our ceremony with pictures of us!
I'm putting fabric on the archway that our ceremony space has which is made out of sheer ikea curtains.

Our seating chart is one of those collage frames, with each table being in a different frame. I brought a globe for our guest book and stenciled on a saying and our wedding date and am using the frames from around my house (which are all thrift store specials) as signs for things.

I bought a chalkboard and stenciled on directions to the reception, bathroom, etc.
Our card box is a mail box painted and 'Cards' stenciled on the side.

We're also using vintage books, old chalices, and lemons for our centerpieces!

    Ooh, I love that idea!
I'm also going to be investigating if I can get my hands on some old barrels...

I'm a big DIY'er... Hitting up dollar stores for some of the base items is actually a huge cost saver. Glassware (mason jars, hurricane vases, etc), faux greenery, candles, etc, can all be found there and they are waaaay cheaper than going to a craft store.

For signs for the wedding, I have started to scavenge through thrift stores, looking for unique frames and/or mirrors. Then I bought metallic spray paint from Home Depot and re-finished them to match my wedding colours. You can order vinyl lettering, or simply get a paint pen and create your own welcome sign, seating chart, etc.

Especially for backyard rustic, don't be afraid with mixing and matching, going for a more eclectic look. For example, when I was thinking summer wedding, I was going to get many small, oval frames, and turn them into my table numbers. The frames can all be mix and match, but overall it will be the same look/theme.

    Welcome Mirror

Those are great suggestions! I've made quite a lot of it myself so far, I even painted mason jars and then decorated them with twine and old fancy buttons and ribbon and things like that! I'll have to keep my eyes and ears peeled!

I saw a seating chart today that was just an old rustic picture frame, with twine strung across lengthwise and then the people's names were written on cards that were hung along the twine! It looks like something pretty simple to make if you can find an old frame!

    Those sound like amazing ideas!

I'm making my own centerpieces with slices of wood and an assortment of clear jars filled with string lights or candles.

I've heard that eucalyptus is very inexpensive and looks gorgeous as a table runner or that sort of thing!

I'm also thinking of making my own table seating chart with an old skid, but I'm still wrapping my head around that one... I have a lot of ideas like that spinning around!

We are getting married in a barn, so luckily for us we don't need much decor because of the way it actually looks inside. But for the decor we are doing, centrepieces, head table, guestbook table etc we are doing it our selves. Pinterest has lots of ideas, especially for rustic weddings. You can get burlap from the dollar store or Michaels or any craft stores and they aren't expensive. Take a day with your FH or BMs and go from store to store looking at different things you can use and how much they are. Also look on buy and sells in your area. Brides are always selling cheap used and good condition things you can use!!
