Wedding dance/reception alternatives

Hi! We do not want to have a dance at our wedding, we are looking for more of a kitchen party feel. We both hate dancing. However we are worried the everyone will just leave after they eat. Has anyone done this or been to a wedding like this? Any tip on keeping people entertained would be great!! We will have music, I was thinking a live band to give more of a kitchen party feel. I am open to any suggestions. Also we are having a very small wedding of 65 guests.

    I was thinking about the kitchen parties they used to have in Newfoundland. Everyone brought food, booze, and an instrument if they played. Lots of singing and dancing going on.

    I think both the suggestions by Daphne and Sonja are great ideas! You could also maybe do a games evening. Have different tables set up with different games and then maybe also have some games set up outside if that is an option.

    Does anyone of your guests play an instrument? It would be fun to get them together to for a "Jam session".

    We didn't do a reception. We made a reservation at a restaurant with a group menu then we went to a bar/pub after dinner. The older crowd that would have left early at a reception was able to leave after dinner without feeling bad about it.
