Congrats on the upcoming wedding! Outdoor timing really does make or break the whole vibe, so this is worth thinking through carefully.

Honestly, 4pm is the move for June. Here's why — the sun in early June at 3pm is still pretty aggressive depending on where you are, and you'll have guests squinting directly into it during the ceremony if you're facing west. By 4pm the light starts softening just enough, and you'll hit that gorgeous golden hour right around cocktail hour or portraits, which photographs absolutely beautifully.

The other practical thing — June heat peaks between 2–4pm, so starting at 4pm means your guests aren't sitting in the worst of it during vows. Even 45 minutes makes a real difference in comfort. You'll also naturally flow into a dinner reception right as the temperature drops and the evening gets pleasant.

One thing worth checking: what direction your ceremony setup faces and your actual sunset time for your location that weekend. That'll confirm whether 4pm lands you perfectly in golden hour. Most couples who do outdoor June weddings say they wish they'd started later, rarely earlier.

    Hi Rachel,

How soon after are you having the reception? is it far away to travel to? how long will you need for photos afterwards? If you don't need much time, I would think 4pm would be fine considering it's closer to dinner hour so your guests would not have to wait very long in between.
