Wedding cake

Alycia, on February 1, 2019 at 18:11 Posted in Wedding reception 0 17

I’m still really early I think, I wanted to know when it’s time to start picking a cake? Where do I start?

I've been struggling with this a lot as well. I've been trying to call and email bakeries around me (theres so many of them) but most don't want to give me any kind of price unless I can tell them every detail of what I want the cake to be. So since I still have lots of time im going back to the drawing board to start getting a better idea of what I want the cake to be. Then im just really gonna hope it won't cost a lot

Yeah I’m gonna check the bakery in the next town first, they usually have samples my dad says. I’ll start there and then see from there lol

I found cake was one of the hardest vendors to hire since you can't tell what cake tastes like based off a picture off the internet.

You might be able to go to different bakers and go for tastings.

I will see the baker in the next town first I think, I heard they changed owners though, which has me a little worried. I had a really good experience with my parents 30th wedding anniversary cake. I haven’t heard about the new owners, I wanna support as many local business as I can.

It’s hard to pick based on web search! I tried a few samples at the last wedding show but there was only samples were sugar cookies. They were yummy, but it wasn’t cake. I’m going to the Wedding Show at the EY Center on March 2nd and 3rd. I’ll try again there.

My local baker was good and took care of me every way possible knowing making suggestions and getting the colours off our cards and matching the design to our reception card.

I went to her 8 months beforehand and gave her a design with notes on the sheet. There were many updates during the process and got samples of the custard and sponge cake that was awesome.

I paid the week of delivery which was good on our trust and her business.

If there's any wedding/bridal shows in your area, go to them! Lots of times bakers will have samples and/or wedding show special prices.

Wedding Wire also has a list of vendors, you can search by type of vendor/location

Great! That really helps, I wasn’t sure how to start searching we don’t have too many bakeries around that I feel loyal to the way I found my Travel Agent and Photographer so I’m finding that to be a tricky one to start researching. I am not a sweet tooth so I am not too picky for that stuff lol

We're 5 months away and I just put down the deposit. We had a pretty easy search, but I would start by googling bakeries in your area, checking out their instagrams, and then calling for prices. Depending on your budget, you can narrow it down Smiley smile I'd definitely steer clear of any place that makes you pay for tastings.
