Wedding, a life changing experience?

Angel, on July 27, 2018 at 18:44 Posted in Before the wedding 0 10

As my FH and I prepare for the wedding, I truly feel that the planning experience has changed me physically, mentally and spiritually. We are currently going through pre-marital counselling which has been super helpful in helping my FH and I tackle difficult life topics and get to know each other better. My parents had a rocky marriage and after these sessions, it has finally dawned on me how much their marriage has adversely impacted my views on marriage. It has forced me to dig really deep down and talk about things that I have tucked away due to pain and sadness.

We have also recently engaged a wellness coach to help us lose weight before the wedding. We want to look good for our big day but most importantly, we want to get in shape so we can have a healthy baby down the road! Weight loss has been a life long challenge for me but I am ready to tackle it again this time as I am doing it together with my FH. It is sooo much easier when you have someone else getting up with you at 7 a.m. on a Saturday to go for spin class! It has been a week, and I have already lost 1.4 lbs. Hopefully, I can keep this up and reach a good weight before my wedding!

I have been a little stressed financially because of saving up for the wedding. With the additional cost of the wellness coach, we are stretched even more thin. However, I think health is a bigger priority than the wedding so we'll make do with what we can for the wedding! Since I need to be more frugal now, I have been paying more attention to what I really need versus what I want. In some ways, my FH and I have learned to become minimalists.

I'm still a year away from the wedding and I already see so many positive changes in myself! I totally did not expect that I will gain so much from the wedding planning process. I feel that by the time the wedding comes, I will be a more confident, loving and mature woman who will be ready to tackle the challenges of marriage as a wife!

Has any of you been going through the same life-transforming journey as myself? I would love to hear your story!

Cindy, you still have lots of time so don't stress out too much! Just make sure you set a budget soon and set aside some money each month so you can achieve the budget by the time the wedding comes around. I wish I was as diligent as you in using coupons and kijiji. Time is not on my side but I'm trying to save up in other ways possible. Unfortunately, I am not a crafty person either so DIY is not an option for me. However, my MOH is, so I think she is helping us make some stuff for the wedding.

Taking baby steps is important because it can become too overwhelming if you look at all the items you have to accomplish on your to-do list. I'm trying to just take it day by day!

I'm glad that you have found wedding planning transformative.

I don't think I experienced any changes that deep but I think it made me realise just how much my husband and I can work in tandem and how much I can rely on him.

I've had some self adjustments myself. I've never planned to get married and I've always been frivolous with money. My FH is the same. There was no wedding fund and so now learning how to save has become a challenge. He still isn't so good and so basically I'm trying to save for the both of us. I've had to decrease my shopping. I'm also learning how to be crafty and frugal. I'm learning that I can do some crafty things. And I'm learning how to do it with coupons, kijiji and sales. I've gone back to working out as I just stopped this past year. When I went dress shopping I was sad about how much weight I had gained back. So I've got it down to working out at least 5 days a week. My next challenge is going to be scheduling my time so I don't get too stressed when it gets closer to the date.

Life changes are a great thing when we put our minds to what we want to achieve. Good for you two doung what you are and feeling great in whole. Financially, its hard to seperate the payments for vendors and your coaches. Keep 2 accounts seperate to put those amounts to each knowing they are secure and not being touched.

Wedding planning gives you lots of ways to look at aspects you never imagined.

Keep yourselves going in this direction and stay posotive!

I'm preparing mentally right now to begin my transition. I am doing some soul searching right now, before the wedding I too want to quit smoking, start getting in shape (I have been loosing a little bit of weight but now need to tone). I have had a stressful time the past year, and so I am just working on becoming a little stress free and prioritizing things in life better, such as my relationship.

It's been pretty life changing in different ways. Part of it is realizing I have toxic family members. On the better note it caused me to become closer with my fiancee and his family. Also a big learning process about money And what goes into weddings.

    I didn't even know if I wanted a wedding. But I realized

Your pre-wedding experience sounds so lovely. I'm personally going through some changes while preparing for this wedding - I quit smoking which is helping me become a healthier person and save money - but with quitting smoking, I've noticed my realtionships have changed. It';s really eye-opening to experience somtihng new and see how those around you react. Next step is weight-loss, which I'm really excited for. I'm trying to stay as stress-free as possible, so I'm taking baby steps!
