We can't find a caterer in Calgary

Patricia, on January 19, 2022 at 14:14 Posted in Alberta 0 10
Hello. We are planning a small wedding (no more than 70 guest) and we have not been able to find a caterer for a decent price. Any suggestions in the Calgary area and what would be a good price to spend for 70 to 80 guest?

Hi Vinoid. We have booked an appointment with a catering company. We hope they are going to be the "ones" 😊

Catering from restaurants is not available if you feel personal chefs are not servicing your day as an alternative. I know some small bakeries/delis will cater to you though the price may be the same as caterers out there. Platters from supermarkets may work for dessert if that may help with the cost.

If the local is available to help you out and you can support them, its great to know they would provide their services.

$8K for 80 people is actually quite tight, especially with the additional furniture and foodware you need. And unless you're only serving two things at the buffet line, you'll need more than 2 servers for 80 people otherwise it'll be a long buffet line.

For the ceremony chairs, you should get them from a furniture rental company, not the caterer. But unless you're going for a cheap folding chair, it will cost at least $5 per chair. You may want to consider having the venue staff flip the space by using your reception chairs during the ceremony.

I think you need to revisit your wedding plan to fit such a budget or consider cutting your guest list.

Our venue is The Mackenzie Lake Beach Club. They don't have catering service however they have tables and chairs. We need table Cloths, plates, glases and because we want a buffet style we only need one or two servers. We have the licensed alcohol servers already.
We still need the chairs for the ceremony (80). Budget wise we have $8000. Do you think we are asking for too much??

Where is your venue? Are you looking for a full service caterer (with wait staff, servers, etc) or just food? Do you need beverages with licensed servers? How about furniture like tables and chairs. These all factor into the price.

What's considered reasonable for your budget?
