We all kiss a few frogs....

Melissa, on October 24, 2016 at 12:19 Posted in Before the wedding 0 12

I was just having a chat with another bride on wedding wire and thought it might be fun to do a walk down memory lane...to before we met the loves of our lives!

Lets keep things light, and leave names of the guilty parties out.....What is your WORST date story? Maybe it was even with your current SO and you were able to move past it? Or a long ago repressed memory??

Here is mine:

I once went on a date with a fellow I met at school, in my first year of college. We walked from our school to the movie theatre, and chatted. I kind of knew from there we were not likely to go out again. No real click.

We saw a movie, he tried being handsy in the movies, which annoyed me (and I told him so!). We argued about that while we walked back to the school where his car was parked. The plan was that he would drive me home....until his friend called! Then he decided it was best to leave me to catch the 1 hour night service bus home!

He was surprised a week later when he called and I said I wasn't interested in seeing him again Smiley atonished

Hi Em! I'm so glad you like the idea- and love that you shared with us!

That date does sound awful- I probably would have given up and left- I admire your willingness to stick it out! It is also such a great twist of fate that you met your prince so soon after! Did you know he was your prince right away?

I didn't with my FH- I admired his adventurous spirit, kindness and goofiness- but it did take a few weeks before I really realized that we might actually go the distance!

    Hey Melissa Smiley heart

Wow I'm so impressed with this great discussion idea! We all have our own stories of goods and bad dates that finally led us to find the right person. I'm also going to tell you mine...

I had met this guy through a mutual friend. The guy was very loud and was always trying to get everyone's attention... and especially mine Smiley xd I thought he was funny sometimes but that he was trying too much. At the end of the evening, he asked me out on a date.

The date was a nightmare from beginning to end. We were supposed to go to brunch. When I got to the restaurant not only was he not there, he wasn't even awake! The restaurant had a long queue outside and it was freezing and snowing outside. I had to wait in line 1h to get in, while trying to call him at least 20 times.

He finally answered and got to the restaurant the moment I finally got inside... And didn't even say sorry. The whole time, he was bragging about himself, barely listening to anything I had to say.

I still thought I would give him the benefit of the doubt. I thought maybe he was just nervous. I tried to show interest but that just got him to brag even more.

When we left, he asked to split the bill... and kissed me by surprise. Then told me immediately that he didn't want me to get the wrong idea... That he didn't want anything serious but really liked me. Bla bla bla ...I decided I had made enough effort to support him for one morning.

He kept texting for a week trying to convince me to go on a second date... I never said yes and I never gave it a second thought as I found the prince charming a few weeks later. Smiley catface

    ....

What about your FH? Did you know from the start that he was going to be "the one"?

They make for the best stories! That's what I used to say when people would ask why I stuck around for the full date if it was going bad.

I'm so sorry to hear that Melissa. I would say a memorable date that I had which was a bad one, was a first date. It was raining and this guy I met we will refer as (mr.) picked me up. My mom thought mr. looked familiar but couldn't figure how. We went to the theatre late to watch Spider-Man 2; not his fault due to weather. After that was done, we went to a jazz festival and it cleared up. We had a good time but what ruined the night was when he forcibly kissed me when I was not wanting to do so. I opened the door so fast and ran upstairs to get the bottle of peroxide wipe my lips. My mom then put the pieces together and said don't see him again and I told her I won't.

Oh... I have so many of those stories. It used to be a fun game with my co-workers (we were like family), after a date I'd come in the next morning and we'd all gather around while I regailed them with the crazy story of the date I had. My dating life was a hilarious joke (not in a sad way, I had a ton of fun telling these stories!) HAHA thanks, I do love telling a good storyXD

I think he contacted me and I was just like...no. And I believe he was a little surprised and I was like... REALLY, are you REALLY surprised? lol.

Did not mean to one up youSmiley winking

CALLED! You're a better person than I... I would have texted that it wasn't going to work, or just ghosted him!

Warning... it's a long one! Mine was a guy I met on a dating site and he lived in Ottawa, we talked and decided to meet half way (I was in Pickering at the time)…. A long drive but it was early in my online experience and I was like, what if he's "the one"?!? (spoiler alert... he wasn't!)

So the day before he tells me had to work that night into the morning, so he would be too tired to make the drive and asked if I would meet him in Ottawa. Claimed he knew a cool band that was playing at a local bar (I used to make it clear to dates that I HATE bars/dancing and my only execption is if there's live music). I agreed (I was young and naive). So anyways, he kept pushing back the time to meet and eventually said to meet him at his house for 7pm and we would get dinner.

On the drive he called and asked what I like on my pizza… I was pretty annoyed that I was driving like 5 hours to see him on last minutes notice and we were just ordering in pizza on a first date, but I told him... I'll eat anything BUT peppers, mushrooms and no BBQ sauce. Well I finally get to his house and he's not even home! I call and he says he was out getting the pizza and went to the wrong location and that's what took so long, he'd be back soon. I waited for like 30 mins in my car out front of his house and when he showed up he didn't even HAVE the pizza, he gets out of the car and he's dressed in dirty PJ's!!!!

We get in his car to go pick it up, and get back to his "house". He lived in an attic space of a house but his apartment had just a matress on the floor and a table in the middle of the room with only his computer, a bottle of lotion and a kleenex box!! He sits me there, and hands me a slice of pizza... I kid you not, the toppings were onions, cheese, peppers and BBQ sauce! The sauce usually makes me really sick, so I politely tried to wipe it off and pick off most of the toppings and said no when he asked if I wanted more. THEN he had the nerve to say "you girls never eat! Glad I got the toppings I wanted". So there was still time to "kill" before the band went on, so he says "well I have xbox we can play… oh but I only have one controller, so you can just watch me I guess". This story is getting long so I will point form the rest..

He peed with the bathroom door open, and I was sitting directly infront of the bathroom.

He asked if I would drive to the show and even when I said I had just driven like 5 hours and didn't know the city so I would rather not, he said "well I'm planning on drinking so unless you'd prefer I drink and drive..." ...I drove.

He tried to bring open alcohol in my car while I drove and when I said no, he grabbed an old timmies cup from his car and put it in there

When we got to the show the band was just getting off stage! And he got upset when I didn't want to dance

When we left shortly after, he made me pay for parking (I just sat with my car parked at the gate for a full 2 mins before in silence and he looked out the window at a wall)

He asked if I wanted to stay the night, but he needed a good nights sleep because he worked the next day so he needed to sleep on his bed, but he would blow up an air matress for me...

I ended up driving home at like 3am... what compelled me to stay that long I'll never know. I think I figured, hell I drove out here... may as well go see a good band play!

    Don't miss dating... at...all!
