Vows

Looking for peoples opinions on sharing vows with your fiancé before the ceremony. I know it’s extremely personal and up to the couple but I’d like to hear personal experiences, some pros and cons of rehearsing it beforehand and/or having the surprise/emotional factor on the big day?

I think I would rather have our vows said for the first time at the ceremony. I'd get someone else you know and trust to help you fine tune them.

I didn't want the added pressure of memorizing my vows to my husband. I printed them and read them at the ceremony. I wanted him to hear them for the first time at our ceremony and he felt the same way about his vows to me.

I don't think there is a right way or a wrong way to do things. Go with whatever works for you as a couple - it is your wedding after all! People like to share what they have done or people like to follow traditions. It is 2019 and nobody has to be the same as someone else!

We wrote our own vows and shared them beforehand to ensure they were of similar length and sentiment. I thought it would be awkward if they were surprises and one was long and the other short, or if one was really serious and the other really humorous.

It did not take away from the specialness at all. They still sounded and felt so meaningful to say. We both cried and all of our family and friends cried too.

We won't be sharing our vows with one another prior to the wedding. I want what is said to be a surprise for both of us.

As other's have suggested, you can still share your vows with friends or family or rehearse in front of them if you like.

If there are little slip ups and stumbles in your vows on the day of it will honestly speak to the emotional aspect of the wedding. A lot of people say that those little moments make the vows more memorable, and in a good way.

I mean, we will not be doing personal vows during the ceremony but we will be giving each other letters the day of while we get ready? Is that what you mean? Or are you asking about going over the vows for input from your Future Spouse about what you will say on the day of?

If it's the first and you want the first time they hear them to be just the two of you after the first look or something then I'm on board for it. If you are talking about going to them for help to write it then I would say not to - but everybody is different and if that's the type of couple you are then maybe ask them what they think of you showing them it for proofing?

Personal vows are spoken to your husband to be the day of the wedding.

Rehearsing with a friend or family member is something you can consider to get a feedback to make changes accordingly.

My FH and I have written our own vows and we are keeping them a secret until the wedding. I just think that it's more personal that way. And it makes for that special moment between the two of you. Although I have shared them with other people (family and friends) to get some feedback and make sure I'm headed in the right direction.

We aren’t able to write personal vows as we’re getting married in the Catholic Church and FHs church doesn’t allow it but if we were, I wouldn’t want to know what he was going to say beforehand.

I think the raw emotion is so much more special and I think knowing everything beforehand would kind of take the magic away.

I also think sometimes when people misspeak during their vows or mess up, it speaks to the authenticity of the emotions and nervousness of the day which I think is really cute and special!

    Just my two cents though.
