Venue Decisions

Candice, on September 8, 2019 at 03:39 Posted in Wedding ceremony 0 6
My fiancé and I are currently working in Alberta doing summer seasons at a beautiful rustic lodge. We have modified our wedding date to accommodate our employment dates so we can get married back home in Ontario. We have an amazing venue all but finalized with a deposit, however now our employer has suggested we have our wedding out here the last week we are open. My concern is most of our family and friends are in Ontario and it may be difficult for them to come out.
Suggestions, should we risk the possibility of our guests not making it and have it in Alberta, where it will be cheaper and easier to work on the final details or do we stick with the original plan and have it in Ontario the week we return to home?

We decided to stick to Ontario. It’s home and it means more of the people we love will be able to attend.

Where did you decide to have your wedding, Candice? Is your employer pressuring you, or just offering you the use of the lodge as a favor? Have you asked your VIPs whether they could make it to the lodge?

I'd stick with the original plan. It sounds like everyone being there is important to you, and I don't think it's worth the risk of doing it in Alberta and not having everyone being able to join you.

I say Ontario. My reason being that as much as it may save money to have it in AB, you won't make much of that back if you don't have people attend that would give presentation. Plus, those who do give presentation will most likely give less if they have to pay to travel as well as pay for accommodations.

It will be somewhat tough for finalizing vendors - but most that I have gone with I haven't seen in person anyway and I live 45 min from my venue!

I have family who are 4.5 hours North of the city and aren't making it to my wedding due to distance so I can see how a couple provinces away may give you the same result.

Really weigh your pros and cons. Talk to your families and see if having it in Alberta would be ok with them.
Maybe you could do a smaller ceremony and reception in Alberta and then do a bigger reception in Ontario with family that couldn’t make it.

You can stilll have your wedding in Ontario as planned due to the family being here. It will save a lot of stress and keep you on track as scheduled. This decision is based on you and FH to make upon costs and location wise.

Seeing your working for a lodge, it would save you lots to do since you have co workers and your boss to arrange the set up on your style and colours.

Staying in Alberta and having a discounted price at your work is an amazing advantage to take upon the situation. You two can compromise on the guest list by accepting less guests coming out or making list A and list B to send out upon declines received.

You have options that will work on how its best for you two overlooking some obstacles in your path. I wish you the best in the pathway you choose making it work to the fullest benefit.
