Vegan wedding catering

Leonora, on August 31, 2020 at 13:09 Posted in Wedding reception 0 7
Hi everyone,

We’re planning a 100% vegan wedding next year and we were wondering if anyone has any tips or suggestions regarding catering, cake etc . We are not sure if we should have it buffet style (most of our guests are not vegan, so we want to have lots of options for everyone to find smth they like).
Any tips or suggestions are welcome Smiley smile

No problem! ☺️ Yes, as you said to Hank I’m not suggesting you lie or hide that it’s vegan but just suggesting you don’t bombard your guests with VEGAN all over everything because in my experience it makes people more critical. In the end it’s FOOD, many people can survive on a meat free meal for one night and choose from a list of ‘normal meals’ that also happen to be vegan friendly (ex ratatouille is vegan and no one in France says VEGAN ratatouille on the menu).

No no, we will definitely not hide it that it’s a vegan wedding. I mean most (if not all) guests know my fiancé and I are vegan, but will not overly advertise and label each dish as vegan, just whatever it is (like Kristen said above to just say “mushroom risotto” “butternut squash soup” etc so they’re got get bombarded with the word vegan but see the dish for what it is - smth they’re probably tried and liked even before

I wouldn't try and hide the fact that it's a vegan wedding. You'll get some snarky guests at first but if they choose to come, it won't be a thing (if they choose not to come because of one meal, it says quite a lot about them). I can see those expecting meat but finding none served throughout the whole night will get even more aggressive.

Thank you so much Kristen. I totally agree with you. Even though our immediate friends and family know about it and are supportive, the rest of the guests don’t know yet and chances are some might not be happy or will look at the food through a lens of criticism. Maybe labeling the dishes as normal/well known dishes could help. Will definitely make a note of this 💛🌱

Thank you Hank. Our wedding is next September so hopefully by then things will have gotten better, but if not we will have to see other options. Also, good point on the allergens. If we go with a buffet, we can try to label them.

Hank may be right, so if buffet isn’t an option maybe try a menu where they can choose from a list of options. As a fellow vegan I know there is quite a spectrum of options and we get used to the type of foods we eat, but maybe offering some of those foods that seem more familiar and approachable to non vegans (pastas, ratatouille, risotto, veggie burgers, salads, soups, etc).

Also, maybe consider whether you are wanting to make it super clear about the vegan thing from the start - I find some people get their backs up when you label something “vegan”. Maybe you can keep it subtle and just have the menu say what it is so people don’t look at it through a lens of criticism (ex they see “Pasta primavera”, “butternut squash soup”, “mushroom risotto” and think nothing of it). Just a thought ! Good luck ☺️🌱

The only thing about buffets is, it might still not be allowed depending on the covid situation.

Are you getting food that is meant to be imitation meat? Those things tend to have full of common allergens like soy, nuts, coconut, and gluten so you'll need some options if your guests have any restrictions.
