Ushers for weddings

Hi everyone, is it still common for people to ask friends/ family to be ushers for your ceremony? I remember my sister had this at her wedding but it was 15 years ago. I'm not sure if that's something people still do? Or even the purpose? Just looking for thoughts and opinions here! Thanks so much!

    We are getting married at a church and we won’t be having any ushers for our ceremony. We will however be using our nieces and nephews at our reception taking our guests to their tables

    We never had any at our wedding. I think this day in age people are ok with finding a seat themselves
