Tipping florist?

Jess, on September 19, 2020 at 22:45 Posted in Wedding reception 0 10
We are 21 day’s away (hopefully anyway!).

I was about to pay the invoice for my florist as it is due this week and there is an option to leave a tip. I hadn’t even thought of this and now unsure what to do. For context, the florist owns their own business and is not assisting with day of set up. We are picking up and doing that ourselves.
Is a tip required? I do not want to offend them but money is tight right now due to loss of income from Covid.
Also has me thinking of who else I should be tipping!

I have always thought about tipping hair/makeup but the option for a tip to the florist has thrown me for a loop! I've now contacted my wedding planner to ask her lol.

If there is a "service charge" added already, I wouldn't see why a tip is needed.

Just thinking about it, there are other ways you can tip a vendor - leave a great review, a small thoughtful gift, mail them a card afterwards thanking them for their help or in your case, have a nice card ready for the day you pick up your flowers.

You need to do what is best for you. If you can't afford to do it or if you DID it would leave you tight on something else, I would not tip. I would write them a wonderful review, but right now is a tough time for everyone and hopefully they understand that.

I didn’t end up tipping. I’ve been reading that if they own their own company you don’t need to but of course can if you like. Hope that helps!

I think in this case you can avoid a tip. Positive reviews online go a long way and are usually more appreciated by businesses. If you liked the florist shops service and flowers, considering leaving a positive review.

Thanks for your opinion! I didn’t end up tipping. Feels odd but I think I did the right thing.

I personally don't think you need to tip. Since she's not helping you with the setup or anything, there's no need. My fiance and I are doing the same thing since our florist is just making them up for us and then we're taking them with us to our wedding.

I think in this case, you can be okay without leaving a tip.

I err on the side of tipping anyone in service. Since you’re picking up and setting up the florals yourself, I don’t think you would have to tip. If someone was delivering it or setting this up for you then that would warrant a tip. The more I think about it though I feel like I’m in the same boat as you - I haven’t thought about all the people who I should be tipping!
