Throwing rice for the newlyweds

Daily, on May 18, 2022 at 18:58 Posted in Wedding ceremony 0 7
What do you all think about the tradition such as people throw rice to a newlywed? Growing up in Thailand after the ceremony is over, people always through rice at the newlyweds couples! I love the idea of that. My husband is black and he said he witnessed rice throwing at newlyweds. I would love to incorporate that in my wedding. But first I have to check with my venue but definitely will be happening outside of the venue.

Our venue is in a national park so no rice so we will be throwing dried flower petals!

Our venue (hotel) does not allow it d/t the difficulty often encountered in cleaning it up. I think this is the case with a lot of venues, especially indoor ones today.

Most places stopped rice because it was harmful to the birds and then it was hard to get rid of them after each wedding.

When it comes to flowers a lot of venues do not want petals all over the place but will accept the following, just confirm with your venue what options would not be considered a clean up fee.

    Bubbles

    Biodegradable confetti

    Coconut shavings

    Dried lavendar

    Dried herbs

    Fresh leaves

    Dried flowers

I think its a great idea, however some venues will allow but charge a cleaning fee- our venue wanted $500 to clean any rice, confetti or flower petals. My FH is Indigenous so we are going to include a smudging ritual at the beginning of the ceremony and a drummer for our grand entrance.

The rice concept is great if it can work with the venue knowing it can be swept away after off the curb.

An alternative to this part can be bubbles so that it doesn't have any clean up after and as your walking outside.

Definitely check with the venue because a lot of them don't allow confetti or rice thrown around, even outside. You might get hit with a major clean up bill.

I think it's a pretty neat idea! I'd say do it if you really want to!
