The dog days of weddings

Chelsea, on November 7, 2016 at 15:40 Posted in Wedding ceremony 0 13

Weddings are a family affair, so it’s only natural that you’d want all your loved ones present on your big day.

You may wish to entertain the possibility that the family dog can attend the wedding. Even if they just lie in the corner chewing their rawhide or stag bar. Obviously you should probably delegate a member of your wedding party to be “Chief Dog Handler” in case your pooch has designs on the bridal bouquet, or has a habit of “enthusiastically” greeting people who may not appreciate such public displays of affection.

If your dog is exceptionally well behaved then you may even wish to assign them a duty, like “Ring bearer” or “Flower girl” - if it’s a girl. Male dogs may not appreciate such frivolity.

What are your thoughts on having your dog present at your wedding?

Aw that sounds super cute! So happy that you get to include him in your wedding and that's going to make for some great pics!

Haha that is too funny! And my kitties would likely just go sit with people and purr. They tend to forget about their owners when other people are around as they like to explore and meet new people! They will be staying home!

This little one is going to be our ring bearer! We're going to have him "get ready" with the guys in the morning, he'll hang out with the groomsmen until the ceremony and then we have a junior groomsman to walk him down the aisle. Afterwards we have a family friend to come grab him and take him away.

What a cutie! I can see why you wouldn't want her at your wedding! My parents have a rescue dog as well and she is getting better with having people around her but she still runs away a lot, hides in her cage, paces around the house and seems nervous quite often. New situations also are not good for her! So I think you made the right choice in not bringing her along!

At least she will be with you in spirit! If she isn't "chill enough" like you mentioned, you wouldn't want her running around and taking away from your special day! Sounds like the dog sitter is the best option for you!

My dog actually had to be put down a couple of years ago and currently where I live we aren't supposed to have dogs so for now I have my 2 kitties! So I won't be having a dog come to my wedding!

Dog sitter for us Smiley sad I just didn't want to deal with the logistics of having to keep an eye on her all the time, our puppy isn't chill enough yet (or likely ever)

We would have loved to have our dog with us for our wedding day but logistically it didn't make sense. We're having a destination wedding and we're flying up and then driving back so that would have been hard on her. She would have been in a foreign environment leading up to the wedding which would be stressful. We would have had to find a hotel that allows pets. Also she's a rescue so she's not super friendly to strangers so I don't think she would have liked all the people! She definitely wouldn't have made it down the aisle as she tends to be skittish. We'll miss her but she'll be with us in spirit!
