Surprise wedding!

Brandi, on June 12, 2018 at 08:58 Posted in Ontario 0 10
We were thinking of doing a surprise wedding.
Any suggestions on how to minimize the cost? We want something very low key and simple. We have less than 50 guests so we don't need a venue.
Possibly a farm or park?
Do we really need decor then?

I'm also not sure how to go about inviting people and ensuring they come without knowing it's a wedding?

This is obviously our first wedding and we are super new to this. Making it a surprise wedding is making it even more stressful.

Any input at all would be much appreciated!

We are having an "engagement party". Our children will be the only ones who know what is happening. Our families still think we are getting married next summer, instead we are getting married in November Smiley smile

We are doing the ceremony and dinner at our favourite restaurant. I have ordered simple invites from vistaprint. There will be some simple decorations, and if they figure it out before we make our entrance - oh well. We are super excited

We are having a surprise wedding! We are inviting people under the guise of a "pre-wedding party". Essentially, we have two friends (a couple) who are flying down for our wedding. So, for the rest of our guests, we are just telling them "Hey, we have some friends that are flying down from Ontario for a visit, and we wanted an excuse to have all the family/friends to meet before the wedding next year!"

So, I'll be sending an informal evite to people in early/mid summer for our late September "pre-wedding party" at a local restaurant. Needless to say, I anticipate them being very surprised. lol

    Hi Joey!

That's what we were thinking - invite people to either witness my s/o "propose" or say it's an engagement party! That way people know it's important and not to skip out.
We haven't decided on what traditions we will keep. That's still up for debate.
We wanted to do something different and I saw this idea on Instagram and fell in love!
Well my mom knows and my s/o's bff so both can help make sure everyone gets there.

How about inviting people for an engagement party? That might be a way of ensuring family know what an important occasion it is without giving the details away. And I'm sure it would be fine to skip a lot of decor if you want to. What wedding traditions do you want to keep? What made you opt for a surprise wedding? Will you tell anyone about it?

I'd say invite everyone to a family backyard BBQ. Say something like: we're having a family bbq with everyone because we want both sides to meet, it would really mean a lot if you could make it"

    A) I love that you're holding a surprise wedding.

    B) I have no idea how you should execute inviting people!

    Good luck!
