Style of Wedding vs Venue

Hank, on February 20, 2020 at 12:55 Posted in Wedding reception 0 4

Is anyone going completely opposite, theme-wise, with what the venue is supposed to be? How did you go about it? Did you find it difficult to make that change?

For example, anyone had "rustic" weddings in a typical ballroom with chandeliers, "vintage" weddings in a night club setting, garden weddings indoors, etc?

I'm doing a rustic theme. Just started my venues tour. 1 down. 5 more to go. Of the 6 venues, based on pictures, 2 are spot on with the theme. 1 in between rustic & garden themed and 3 are a banquet hall/country club with a slight rustic feel. Hoping to match my venue with my theme but depends on the budget . If I can't 100% match my venue with my theme, my plan is to compensate with decorations.

Our venue is at the church my FH's family has gone to for years, so it is aged for sure. Our wedding is rustic/elegant themed, but we are also having the hall lit up by both uplights and artificial candle light. We thought that it would not only give the reception a more intimate and romantic feel, but it will take the focus off of the things that really age the hall. I personally think that if you choose the decor right, the venue won't matter as much.

Btw, please enlighten me on what the difference is between modern, classic, traditional, elegant? Rustic and vintage are fairly self-explanatory but both the bride and I are having trouble distinguishing between the others lol.

Our wedding is classic/modern and our venue is Victorian. So a bit of a clash there, but I feel like it works. I feel like most people who want a specific feel are probably leaning towards a venue that suits that whether they realize or not.

We eliminated a lot of venues based on that. I don't want anything rustic whatsoever so we were able to cut the venues down by more than half.
