Stag and Doe - prizes

Jessica, on October 16, 2018 at 12:55 Posted in Before the wedding 1 12

Hi everyone!

We are having our stag and doe next March 2019 on st. patty's day weekend. We are expected at least a couple of hundred people. I'm so stumped on how to start planning for prizes. I.e... how many raffle prizes, big prizes and door prizes are needed? I'm worried about it getting more expensive than it's worth.

Any advice?

Prizes are usually donated by your family and bridal party so the cost doesn't just fall on you.
Cooler full of booze is always a hit and you can get creative with the raffle prizes. I've been to ones where the door prize is sports tickets, TV's or BBQ.

Ok so when I have helped with stag and does usually the bulk of the prizes were donated to the couple so they didn't actually have to pay for them themselves. Usually you go around to local businesses and like with any other fundraiser you hand out a letter explaining what it is for and if they are able to help a contact number to reach you at. Sometimes it is a full donated item and other times the couple can buy it at a discount.

If your having to buy all the prizes yourself I would encourage you to budget how much all the prizes you want will cost you along with all the other event costs to make sure the effort will be worth it. They are a lot of work to organize and run so you want to make sure you price tickets where you will be able to make enough profit to make it worth the effort.

Baskets make great prizes for raffles to give away. I do remember the girls that put a buck & buck for us did that exactly and surprise boxes too.

some of the baskets were by categories:

    Baking supplies

    Blue jay souvenirs & tickets

    Kitchenware

    Hand blender stick with attachments

    etc.

they also had 2 surprise boxes that were given to guy with ladies items and a woman with guys items. LOL!

Ask family and friends if there is anything that they aren't using and able to give away as prizes. It does help them to clear it out of their home and for you to cut costs. Companies are not much for donating as I tried a lot of stores. Might get lucky if half of them do give anything for donation. Do ask those stores you shop frequently as they know you well and support you that way.

Oh for sure!! Make sure you contact all of your vendors to see if they would give you anything as you are using their services!! (Our food vendor has it in our contract that they will provide something.)

AAAANNNNND!!!! One of the most popular packages that I forgot to mention was a money tree!!! Every social I have ever been to has one! (Lottery ticket tree)

Oh I am totally with you there!! I still haven't locked in a DJ so therefore I don't have tickets yet, so therefore I can't start asking for prize donations because you are suppose to provide a void ticket!! Plus I feel like I can't start spreading the word about it yet as we would have to keep telling people "No, we don't have tickets yet - but we will let you know as soon as we do!".

I'm not sure if you're also looking for tips on this aspect; but else maybe aliexpress is a good place to get your prizes. They're really cheap it just usually takes forever to come in, but you'd have time for that if it isn't until March?
    Good luck!

We don't have anything put together per say as we are 6 months out and we are just getting started - but here is a couple we were lookin into:

Date night: Movie gift card, supper certificate, ice cream gift card

Summer fun: water balloons, water guns, pool noodles, etc.

Camp out: fire frisbee, chairs, s'mores items, blanket, bug spray, etc.

Bakers basket: measuring cups, bowls, oven mitts, cake/brownie mix, etc.

BBQ master: BBQ sauces, grill items (spatula and cleaner), seasonings, etc.

Dog lover: Milk bones, toys, rawhide, pigs ears, etc.

House party: Cooler, solo cups, ping pong balls, etc.

Gardening: seeds, gloves, pots, trowel, etc.

Gamers: uno, Yahtzee, checkers, scrabble, etc.

Spa: bath stuff, nail polish, face masks, spa certificate

Night owl: coffee, coffee maker, teas, cups, etc.

And those would be the regular ones that we are contemplating. If we wanted to make it a grand prize we would put something like:

Sports: Jets tickets, Jets jersey, bombers jersey, gold eyes jersey, a 24, etc.

Thanks! That’s super helpful. I find it ranges from the ones I’ve attended. Most have a bunch of raffle baskets (10-15), but that seems like a lot to me.

What are some prizes that you have?

Last stag and doe I went to had about 120-50 people.

I would say at least 5 regular prizes (most of the ones ive been to will do gift baskets that go together. one year I got 3 bottles of wine with wine glasses).

2 larger prizes and a grand prize (I've seen a bbq, an ipad, a laptop etc as grand prizes).

toonie toss...so closest toonie to the texas mickey (they get the texas mickey)

another one that is awesome. is a booze cooler. and that could even be a larger prize. buy a nice cooler. ask your wedding party to each supply a 26er for it. then throw in a couple of 6 packs of coolers or beer.

I know that Stag and Doe's are almost the same as a social (although Manitoba Socials are kinda a big deal) - so for my wedding social we will probably be having:

    10 regular size prizes

    3 grand prizes

    a 50/50

    a perfume draw (texas mickey)

and a door prize (that everyone is included in - support ticket holders included)

From people on here and in person I have learnt that Stag and Doe's aren't always this big though so you may not need all of this.
