Speeches?

Carine, on June 22, 2022 at 13:51 Posted in Wedding reception 0 26

I was at my good friends wedding last Saturday and I found the dinner portion long. Between every course they would have someone say a speech, most of them we could not understand because they mumbled in the mic or the kids screaming and running around in the background.

To avoid our guest being bored would you save speeches for after dinner during cake?

Limit the amount of people saying a speech?

Let the bridal party know to keep it short?

Who are you allowing to say say a speech on your special day, looking for ideas.

True. I feel 2 min a person 10 min in between and I am not forcing anyone to do it, if my bridal party wants to do it fine if not I'm okay with that.

I highly recommend not to lump all your speeches together. If you were impatient while they were spread out throughout dinner service, imagine guests having to sit through all of them at once without any opportunity to breathe and chat with one another. Even 20 minutes will feel like forever.

I like speeches at weddings but when they are 30 min max, not having us wait and listen between each meal gets long.

I don't get hangry, it was funny watching the people at my table get hangry though. Just my butt was so sore and just uncomfortable to sit for so long.

So I think I'll do speeches while dinner is being served and keep it to a max of 2 min per person.

Besides rather be mingling and partying then spend most of my time at dinner.

I may be the weird one here lol but I love speeches they are so special 🤍 my grandma is doing a speech with my Aunty , father in law and step mom, brother in law and his mom and my maid of honour!
I told them all to keep it short, we are doing speeches throughout dinner so people can still eat, we are having a buffet dinner so people can get food eat and each person will do their speech throughout dinner if that makes sense

Exactly what happened at the wedding no one was listening and getting very HANGRY. I was trying to listen to the speeches but the noise and the people talking over the ones who were talking it was pointless

That’s what happened to us. It was open bar before dinner then seated for dinner, but waited and hour between meals due to speeches, so you can imagine the people who did shots and non stop drinking before getting food. It was wild

I feel like making guest wait for their dinner to hear people they do not know talk for 5 minutes is just unfair. But I like cutting it down to a few people and no more than two minutes.

We limited the number of speeches. One family member from each side (my auntie, his mom), 1 bridesmaid, the best man and ourselves. Told everyone to keep it under 2 mins. We did speeches after all guests had their meal/before cake cutting.

It was super tiring but nice. I'm so happy to not have to think about it any more lol. We did our speeches while they were serving. One speech was while dinner was being served and our was while dessert was being served

Have a maximum time allowed. I would tell each person you decide to have a speech they have a 2 minutes to 2.5 minutes. If it's anything longer than that I feel like it's just winging it at that point and they are mumbling. It's not a life story being presented. It's a funny, sweet, short story or memory about the bride and groom, congratulations and move on.

I feel like anything more is pointless and people stop listening. I have been to only 1 wedding and the speeches were way to long and everyone was looking at their phones after the 2 minute mark.

This of course is just my opinion which is why i decided to opt out of speeches all together. I don't care for them at all.

During dinner without breaks in between seems good. I guess I'm more eager for the dancing and partying then having to listen to 3 hours of speeches it gets long.

We had two speeches because I personally hate them lol. The best man gave a speech and we did a thank you for coming speech. We asked anyone who wanted to do a speech to keep it under 4 minutes. Luckily only one person wanted to 😆

Okay I like that idea to have it before dinner and after dinner.

I felt like my friends family and bridal party was never ending, they did first course then 1 hour of speeches, second course then another hour of speeches, and so on, then she had about 2 hours of dancing. I would like to do speeches while we wait for the main course, eat and then finish speeches and start the dancing.

I will be the first to admit that we are going to have quite a few speeches during our reception (7).

That being said, we've decided to split them up so everyone doesn't have to listen to them all one after the other.

The parent speeches will be before dinner (my parents together and his parents separately), then each person of our wedding party (four) will be saying something small after dinner.
