Southern Ontario air bnb or intimate ceremony locations during Covid-19?

fossa, on February 2, 2021 at 16:46 Posted in Ontario 0 5

Hi folks and fiancé(é)s!

My FH and I have decided on an intimate ceremony to elope this year and then a reception and party at a very later date after COVID-19 has settled. We found the idea of hosting this at an Air BnB online while looking for ideas of how to plan and arrange an elopement ceremony (or micro-wedding, how adorable!).

Has anyone done this, especially during the pandemic?

Any locale ideas in Southern ON between Belleville and Ottawa?

Thanks everyone! Stay safe!

Its great you want to elope and hold back on the reception celebrations. Checking out Airbnb in the areas your interested will give you a better idea of what restrictions are laid out and services that will be available for weddings. The uncertainty is unclear with many places of what can and can't happen.

Not sure if you meant you’ve been speaking with your officiant over zoom or they plan to perform your ceremony over zoom. Just so you’re aware an officiant cannot legally marry people in Canada remotely. If you have a wedding without your officiant physically present it won’t be legal.
You also require two witnesses and your daughter is too young to be one of them.

Thank you! We are just having ourselves, a witness and our one-year-old daughter. The officiant we've been in touch with has been working via Zoom! (What a world we live in, huh?) We all reside in the same household and once Ontario's lockdown has completed, Air BnB's were supposedly able to accommodate a same-person stay up to five maximum as per the Ontario website about COV19 plan-of-action. I didn't know Air BnB was not allowing it on their end!

I realize there are likely tons of possibilities, was hoping for some insight on places to hold it from those who have held their marriage ceremony or elopement during this wild year and some where they felt safe and had good experiences.

Events are banned on airBNB listed properties indefinitely but you can technically book a non-airBNB cottage listing. If you're eloping in the truest sense of the word (just the two of you, officiant, and two witnesses), then there are a ton of possibilities since most places can accommodate five people.

AirBNB has restrictions on events due to covid so this probably won't work. You're better off looking at a private venue or outdoor space that will accommodate a small group/elopement. Your photographer may also have good ideas for elopement ceremony locations. Since it will be such a small group you can get away with really unique locations that aren't possible with a big wedding.
