Socially Distanced Activities

Hey everyone!

We're going ahead with our wedding on September 26 this year and we just got an update from our venue of their COVID-19 wedding policies. Besides the obvious of being required to wear a mask and keep social distancing, the big ones that we hadn't totally expected are that our guests have to go right from the ceremony to their seats at the reception (hors d'oeuvres are now plated) and that there will be no dance. So between no mingling and no dancing, our reception is looking like it might be a bit of a snooze-fest.

Does anyone have any ideas for games or activities that guests can take part in from their respective tables of family pods to liven things up a little bit? Especially while my FH and I are out taking photos. Thanks!

My office played a Skype edition of two truths and a lie and it was a huge hit. I learned that my boss had a mullet, was once attacked by a bear, and has 6 siblings.

You can also have some spectator games like the shoe game. Or have wedding bingo (someone does the chicken dance, a white outfit that isn't the bride, someone clinks a glass etc.). I've also seen a game where you have photos of the bride and groom at different ages and you try to guess how old they were, this can also work with milestones like age of their first kisses, what were their first words, favorite color, etc. You could have a few of these printed off and distribute them or sit them at each place.

Board games would be a good option. I don't know if they are as popular in Ontario as in Nova Scotia, but some board game cafes have a mobile option where you can rent "X" number of games and have one of their staff coordinate the day of. Might be looking into if their are board game cafes in your area.
Sort along the same lines of Hank's suggestion of a comedian, maybe hire a magician or some sort of stage performers - Aerial silks, aerial hoop, acrobatics, etc?
Another idea, though it wouldn't be as much of an option for mingling as just entertaining, is playing a movie on a projector for everyone to see (if that is an option at the venue).

If your groups like video games, the Jack Party Packs allow generally 8-10 people to play games where they can log in on their phones as "controllers" for a bunch of different party-style mini-games. Perfect for non-shared items/worrying about cleaning all of them and game fits roughly the average number of people at a table. If you have friends (or you own) something like a Switch Console that could easily be moved and set-up at the venue, that might be something to consider as well. My fiance and I own a switch and a couple friends of ours do to, so we might be exploring this option if restrictions at our venue are still tight next year when we postponed the big party to.

You can buy disposable cameras and have guests take photos of themselves for your collection during the cocktail hour that you'll be out taking photos.

Have you thought about hiring entertainment, like a comedian? Since guests are expected to stay put at their seats, you more or less have a cabaret set up going for you.

There are a few I found on the Knot: I spy phone games, wedding trivia, wedding bingo, wedding madlib, board games placed on the tables, couples crossword, the shoe game, colouring (usually for kids but there are some cool adult colouring books). The trivia you could even just have it as regular trivia or movie trivia ect.
