Signature drink conundrum - solutions wanted!

Leah, on February 27, 2019 at 22:08 Posted in Ontario 0 12

We're based in Toronto, ON but getting married in Victoria, BC.

We've got our bartending service booked, and as part of their package they offer 2 signature drinks. The problem is we won't be able to meet for a tasting session until a week before the wedding.

Pinterest is lovely for drink aesthetics, but we need to find a way to "test" drinks from across the country, so that our bartending service can know what to prepare for our tasting session.

We know we want the drinks to have meaning (Maybe something to do with our individual likes), and have fun/cute names.

We've asked our coordinator to help us problem solve, but my FH asked me to check in with the WW community for solutions as well.

Are you getting married in the GTA? How did you determine your signature drinks?

Should we find a local bar and ask them to make us drinks? We'd need a place that had creative options, but nothing too over the top or expensive.

Maybe a hotel bar, like the Thompson or the Broadview?

Does anyone have any recommendations for local bars known for their cocktails?

On top of being delicious, do your signature drinks match your wedding colours, theme, or personalities as well?

Full disclosure: We did reach out to a local bartending service months ago, but that was back when we thought we'd have a group tasting session during the holidays. With less than 60 days to our big day, we just don't have the time or the means to coordinate a pre wedding tasting session now.

Just tell the bartender your fav liquors and drink ie. Bellini or mojitos and then if you want it to look a certain color and they should be able to advise a drink you are familiar with the taste.

Bartenders usually know if you like some particular booze, they can corporate that into a drink and give you an idea what it will look like and colour wise to match your personality or colour scheme. Names can be based on favourite hobbies/names/interests.

If you're having a brunch reception what about Bloody Mary's with the Mimosa's? Thats more of a theme drink as well but would work great if thats something you want.
    I love your theme btw!

For our signature drinks, we're either going to go with our favourites or use a drink that is super blue to match our colour scheme, but we'd still both like.

If you're stumped, I suggest going to a bar and having a few different drinks picked out to try. Or if you're more DIY like me, buy the ingredients and mix them together yourselves - they may not look as "Pinterest-y" but you'll get a feel for what you like.

Noted! Keep it simple. Personalities first, theme is a bonus!

    Thanks!

    I love the coordination!

We're having a brunch reception, and a mimosas so that's our theme connected drink.

This will leave opportunity for the other two drinks to be more personalized. Smiley heart

That's the plan...even if it's just to help us figure out what we like and what we don't like.

I think we might even try to make it a double date night with my brother and his gf.

Personally, I would trust the people I hired. I'd give them a list of likes/dislikes for each of you (She likes fruity cocktails, dislikes bitter flavours, dislikes cream/milk drinks, likes light flavours, he likes whiskey, dislikes tequila, likes simple drinks, etc). Then let them come up with a few options for you to sample at your sampling. A good bartender should be able to take what you like from a cocktail, and tweek it to be perfect, on the spot

I think when doing a signature drink, you want something to match you and your FH personality, or something you both like, and then matching the theme is a bonus!

The more "up scale" bar that you go to for tastings, the wider variety of selections you have! But this also could make it harder for another bartender to recreate it. The simpler the drink the better!

If you look on pinterest for options, you can always mix them at home, and then see if your bartender can recreate it and make it look fancy/pretty

As I was reading the post my first though was either go to a bar and have them make you the drinks to try (only one drink for the 2 of you a couple times over), or I mean... buy the "ingredients" and make them at home? The second idea was a last resort though.

Although we don't have signature cocktails picked out, if we do - I for sure want them to match either us and what we like to drink, or our colour scheme!

We made our own drinks at home and then confirmed with the venue after if they can make it/supply the ingredients and they are fine with it!

All we need to do is provide the sugar rim!

Our drink DOES match our theme too! We are calling it Blue Midnight and it is... a blue drink and our theme is under the stars!

I would say go to a bar and try things that are SIMPLE to make (ours is 3 ingredients) it'll make it easier for your hired service to do!
