Should i put wine on each of the tables?

Karly, on March 31, 2017 at 11:45 Posted in Wedding reception 0 18

We are working on a big budget, and everything is costing us a lot already. Should I put bottles of wine on each table, or skip this expense all together?

Should I maybe just do it for the head table?

I know not every table will drink two bottles of wine at my wedding - some may only drink one, some might drink two, some will drink none. Some will prefer 2 bottles of red wine, some 2 of white, some one of each. I know how much wine gets wasted by having two bottles open on each table at the start, from experience.

Instead of putting out bottles of wine on each table, we are putting out 2 'vouchers' (I attached an image below) - they are business card sized. A person can take them up to the bar and get their choice of a bottle of red or white wine. I figure this will save us 30-50% of what would have gotten wasted.

Our wedding is soon and we are going to offer 2 bottles by table with open bar after dinner.

we were wondering if we HAVE to do the same for the staff table or keep those bottle for other guests (staff table will be for the DJ, MC and photographers) we feel like they shouldnt be drinking "on the job" but we dont know the wedding etiquette. what are your thoughts? thanks!!

Wines on the table are the best so your guests don't have to get up all the time. Plus your costs cut down so much more.

I know that you have made your decision but I wanted to mention that while you might think that wine on the tables is low cost, there is a high chance that results in a lot of waste. I personally have been to events where there are opened bottles left at the end with half the bottle remaining. At this point, you couldn't return it even if you were able to.

I suggest telling your guests that wine is complimentary and having it behind the bar. This way the bartender can open what is being used and you can return was is not needed. If you want to limit guests, you can leave tickets on the tables for the guests to claim their wine at the bar.

The wine on the table is a very brilliant idea.. am doing it to but yet to decide on either putting wine or champain.. then a toonie bar all throughout the evening.. the venue gave us buffet with soft drinks included which helped alot a bar attendant to serve the drinks.

We are doing a cash bar as well, I think your idea makes perfect sense.

    Thanks!

We are offereing wine with dinner but the catering staff will be handling the service as not all tables will drink one red and one white. We have calculated for 1 bottle of each colour per table though so hopefully that works. Our bar will be closed during dinner as well.

    Hey Karly,

We are putting 2 bottles on each table, one red and one white, and our open bar will be closed during dinner. I preferred this because then people are not getting up through speeches and waiting in line to get a drink. We are having a cocktail hour before the reception starts with the bar open, so if people want to have a drink other than wine with dinner, they can bring it back to their table before dinner starts.

We're planning to do this. This way, the open bar doesn't need to be open and we're hoping it cuts down on the actual liquor costs. It's also become expected here BUT that doesn't mean you have to do it.

We are putting two bottles of wine on each table (one red and one white)! Not everyone does it and you don't have to do it! We chose to do it because we are having a cash bar so this way those who aren't going to be bringing cash can still enjoy a nice glass of wine! Smiley smile
