Should i Post-pone.... Covid & vaccination= no Maid of Honour

Jallandra, on September 23, 2021 at 15:28 Posted in Wedding reception 0 15

My wedding is planned to be on February 2022. I have everything booked and planned however, with the border being closed some of my fiancee's guests cannot come from Detroit. Also, with the new Vaccine Passport a couple guests including my Maid of Honour cannot attend the reception or the bridal shower although, I do have majority that can. The restrictions have given me the benefit of weeding out guests I didn't want to attend however, should I postpone on the mere fact a couple guests cannot? The situation is unfortunate but at this rate do I wait to see if in a year they lift the vaccine passports or not or just get married?

I just found out from my MoH as well that she isn't willing to get vaccinated, even if it means she can't fulfill her duties. She says "I'll just go to the outdoor part". My heart is broken.. there is no actual reason behind her decision beyond stubbornness. I would say go ahead with your original plan and maybe move some of her duties to the Mother of the Bride/Groom? That's what we may have to do anyway. Hope your day is amazing regardless!

No, you shouldn't rearrange your wedding for a few people. While it's unfortunate that the province has mandated vaccines to attend indoor events, it's up to the guest to either be vaccinated or not go. Coming across the border is a different story, but you can include them with a Zoom call for the wedding ceremony and you can always celebrate with them at a later time.

Oh No! That's terrible I'm sorry that happened to you. Hopefully you can plan something else equivalent to what you wanted ! I definitely don't want to lose out on money and I feel changing everything will be a hassle on its own.

No, I’ll say go for it! Planning a wedding takes time and energy. I know you would love your maid of honour to be there but that’s her choice not to get vaccinated. Best of luck ❤️😍

You can’t expect people to get it unfortunately for your wedding and if they decide they aren’t I don’t think you should let that ruin your magical day. You should marry your love with whoever can be there. I lost out on $8000 from my wedding venue due to Covid and it hurts so bad cause unfortunately putting more money into a wedding right now is not something I plan on doing to have a chance of losing again. If you can go ahead with it do it. These uncertain times you should at least get married 😃😃

My MOH has not made any moves to get the vaccination either and (lucky for me I only ever had one person in bridal party) so for me I do have a backup. I love her and we've been best friends for over 30 years but I'm not putting my life off for anyone. She still has time and says she's going to but only time will tell. With the last month of headaches I've had at work because of unvaccinated people I can't say I'm even a little sorry to not have them in an enclosed space with other people I love. My children are too young for the vaccine I don't unvaccinated with them for an extended period of time. I know it's harsh but of you deal with it every day you lose patience

Exactly. Agree or disagree with their choice, you can respect it but you certainly shouldn't let it take over your life plans just to accommodate the few that decides to go against the norm.

Thank you! We've postponed twice already, so we really don't want to do it again!

No, the unvaxxed are not medically exempt which is their personal choice and some of the American guests are not either. However , the rules seem to change all the time.. when and if the border opens for the unvaccinated is still a debate of question and unknown and if it does who knows by the time what people will be able to do and if the vaccine passports will disappear. But as of now people should know the deal and I don’t want to change the plans that I have.
    Thanks!

I assume the American guests are not vaccinated? Because the borders are open for those who are vaccinated. They've always been able to fly here, but now Americans can come here via car. It's just us Canadians who can't go to the states by car.

I also assume the unvaxxed guests are not due to medical exemptions. Without diving into the vaccine debate, I think we're far enough into this pandemic that everyone should know the deal by now. Do you really want to pivot your whole life just to accommodate a few?

I completely agree! My fiancee and I at this rate just want to have the wedding and get it done and over with we have already been apart for most of our relationship due to covid and the long term goal is to get me to move to the states. Being on a border city sucks!

    Thanks Smiley heart

Unfortunely this is going to probably be the new normal everywhere eventually. If they don't want to get vaxed, we can't force your guests to get it but unfortunely they won't be able to attend.

If having these people be apart of your big day is a big deal, then you might have to change your plans a bit or you can go ahead with your wedding unfortunely without them and the other guests that do not wish to get the vaccination. Do what's best for you and your fiance at this point in time ❤
