Should I get married on paper first?

Katy, on March 24, 2017 at 16:14 Posted in Before the wedding 0 10
I have a bit of a downer question. My fiancé and I have been together since 2009 when we were in high school. His mum got sick about 4 years ago with stage 4 breast cancer. It's been moving into her bones and spine for the last 2 years. It still hasn't got to her organs yet, but they have put her on fentanyl patches for the pain. I am to go and try on dresses this weekend, but she won't be able to make it because she feels so ill. I am wondering if we should get married on paper before the actual wedding so that way there is no chance of her missing her son getting married. We have already pushed things along by getting engaged at the end of January and getting married in July, but I don't want to wait too long. Thanks for your time!!

Thank you to everyone that replied. We just got some bad news and the doctor gave her 6 weeks. We are going to just do a little thing with the parents while she is still here. 💕

I think a small ceremony with just immediate family before the "wedding" is a good idea... My FH and I both lost grandparents unexpectedly last year... If we could have foreseen the future we would have upped our time lines to have them there.

Thats a sweet idea. We did this with my future sister in law as she lives out of town but still wanted to be a part of the process.

For the dress shopping, what about texting/emailing pictures of each dress as you try them on? She can then either reply or simply just see them and feel like she's part of the process.

There is nothing wrong with getting married at the court house with the parents as witness. You both can have vows and dress up as you wish.

To be honest, Eric and I are getting married at the court us just the two of us and then a few days later outside with my brother as the officiator and with all the guests. He wanted a personal moment before the part!

If you feel like you want to share this moment with his mum im sure she would apreciate it.

You can even get an officiator and a nice location with minimal decor too and doesnt have to cost much! Anything can work! Im sure for the mother its the fact that she gets to see her son and new daughter come together!

    Hope this helps!
