Should i do wedding decor myself or hire someone else??

Carina, on August 21, 2017 at 16:25 Posted in Before the wedding 0 16

Hi, my wedding will be an intimate vintage/garden style which we will invite around 80 guests. Our venue will be at Doctor's House and I'm planning to do a low profiled French rustic style of decor and going to rent the props since the room is not very big (max capacity 90 guest). Did anyone rent the props from wedding rental company and did the wedding decor themselves? How did you guys manage to do it?? I'm just gonna to put 2 or 3 roses in a mason jar on a wooden slab, and some simple decorations on sweet table and reception table, not a grand style. I know that I can only pick up the props from rental company like 1 or 2 days before wedding and I (bride) already knew exactly how I want to decorate the venue (indoor) but I will be very busy on wedding day, so I have no idea if i can manage to do the decor myself or it's better to hire someone to do the wedding decor for us. We have around 10 tables, 1 sweet table and 1 bride & groom table. Please advise. Thanks so much!!

Hi! I also have a smaller wedding and am in a restaurant that doesn't need decor so I'm buying it all in advance myself but having my day-of coordinator set it up. Nothing to worry about the day of, leave that to someone else! Smiley smile

I am hiring someone else and it way less stressful. One less thing to worry about. Can pick what I want and am confident it will turn out great. Plus that way do not have to delegate bridesmaid to help you set up everything.

    Hi Jen,

Thanks for your advice. May I ask how much was your your decorator? And did you prepare the props yourself or your decorator provided it for you?? how big was your wedding? and what were included in the decorator price?

    Thanks

You'll be very busy, and you'll need all the time you can get to get ready, see your guests, take photos etc. I think you're fine to design everything yourself and leave sketches, pictures, and instructions about how you want things set up, but I would hire people to do the setup and cleanup for you so you can enjoy yourself.

It will be very difficult for you to find the time to do this on your own. If you don't have a coordinator for the day of then you will need to pass this onto your immediate family and your bridal party. We hired a decorator as we knew we didn't want to have that responsibility and wanted out party to enjoy themselves that weekend as well.

If you have booked at the Doctor's House, they do a lot of set up for you. You should discuss with your Wedding Co-ordinator that they assign you. Also, i was going to do things myself as well, but at the end of the day if you have to hire someone to do it, then you might as well get the vendors because they will do it for you, and you don't save that much in costs. I hope this helps?

You can either hire a decorator or hand this duty off to your MOH or just ask someone for help.

My wedding isn't until October - but we are btwn 100-140 (still waiting on some responses! Smiley winking ) The wedding I was at that she did was around 100. I am doing a rustic/elegant? theme. but she does everything - you should check out her website or facebook! ) her backdrops and florals are stunning! She will work within a budget !
She will do co-ordination if needed I believe - but my venue comes with a day of co-ordinator so I didn't need that. I am planning on spending $2000.

My friend who had hers this past weekend was approx the same - she had a backdrop - ceiling lights, linens, lanterns and her bouquets/boutonnieres. She comes and sets up and comes the following day or after receptions (depending on venue requirement) to clean up her items.

I didn't hire a decorator, but my venue package included the cost of the day of coordinator. I'm doing a lot of the decor myself, but on the day of the wedding, I have her doing all the last minute and in between stuff, which is a huge relief for me!

Thanks Tiffany for your recommendation! I'm in Toronto~ how big was your wedding and what kind of style? Did you only hire them to do just the decor or whole day coordinate? how much did you spend?

    Thanks

I am using a decorator! I'm not exactly sure what area you are in.. but if it's in Ontario - I highly recommend Diana McCulloch at http://mccullochevents.ca/ ! Definitely check out her work - I just went to a wedding that she did and it was incredible! Made me that much more excited about my own! Her prices are reasonable as well! She also does florals! She is located in Peterborough, ON.

Thanks Lesley. Do you know around how much to hire a coordinator? I don't need a full day, just do the wedding decor is enough. Thanks

Do you have a wedding party that can help? It would cut the amount of time needed to decorate and you can just stand there and delegate.

I think it depends on if you can set up the night before on not. I planned everything to not have too many elements because I was worried about having to set up the day of and it's hard to fit everything in if you're having hair and makeup appointments.

I would ask the venue how much they can do for you on the day. They might be able to help you set out the centrepieces if you have everything put together and they just have to put it on the table.

If you're schedule permits you can ask your bridal party to come out for an hour or two the day of and set everything up but try to limit the amount of things and have everything organized. Are you able to higher a day of coordinator? That might be really helpful if you have a lot to do.
