Self catering menu?

Alanah, on August 11, 2017 at 16:07 Posted in Wedding reception 0 8
We are having a daytime summer wedding and are thinking about self catering. The reception will be around lunch time and I am debating between a BBQ menu with pulled pork and ribs or a sandwich bar type meal. What do you think would be better? Is sandwiches an adequate meal for a wedding or should it be a little more?

You could also include cheese cubes, various pickles, fruit and veggie trays, and a variety of dessert squares with your sandwiches.

They did kabobs (chicken and veggie, pork and veggie and veggie), corn on the cob, salads, buns, baked potatoes, cornbread, ummmm. Thats i i can really remember. there were a couple other things too. They ended up having just enough food. I think there were very few leftovers. If i recall they had about 80 or 90 guests as well. And then they made like 5 different kinds of pie tarts for dessert.

Do you remember what she served? I never thought about hiring students that's a good idea!

For my sister in laws wedding i know they bought another fridge to keep the food in prior to the wedding. She also hired a couple people (maybe high school students? I dont quite remember) to put all the food out on the day of and to keep it all restocked. It worked out really well.

Of course we will have a salad bar and a few sides as well! I love BBQ foods but not everyone likes pork Smiley sad I think sandwiches are simple and no one will go without because they will be able to make it how they want.

We will have 80 or less guests. I don't mind putting in the hours I love doing things myself I'm just worried about the how to serve the food and keep everything at the right temperature. We have a few guests will diabetes and a vegetarian, not sure about gluten free.

How many guests are you having?? I have been to various wedding where the food was self catered and it was great! Sandwiches or a pulled pork menu both sound like great options! My sister in law self catered (about 90 guests) and her advise to us was "you dont pay for it in money, but you pay in hours" and said it was way more work than they anticipated. So it is a good option but just be aware of what you are getting yourself into Smiley smileAlso keep in mind dietary restrictions guests may have... Im gluten intolerant so id be hoping for a gluten free bread option, which most people dont consider. Dont know if any of your guests would have a similar issue.

I feel like sandwiches is enough if it's lunch rather than dinner. Maybe include a salad or two as well. I also love the BBQ idea...that's what we're planning on doing.
