Seating with obstructed view

Andrea, on January 27, 2017 at 10:00 Posted in Wedding reception 0 7

Hello,

The venue we have chosen is a bit unique and this creates a few obstacles. The space is a bit divided, there is the main part of the room which has the head table, and can seat about 85 people, but then there is a seperate room still open to the rest of the space but has a bit of an obstructed view of the head table and this area seats about 25 people.

What are some solutions for making everyone feel included even when they are a bit seperated?

Thanks for your help!

Hi Andrea! Smiley heart I'm so glad to hear you already foudn your venue! It's too bad that it has two seperate sections. It's a good idea to try working with the space! I don't know how you venu looks like. Maybe post some pictures so we can try to help? Would it be possible let's say to put the head table or speakers closer to the two sections? Let us know how it goes when you talk to your venue about finding solutions. I'd love to hear what recommendations they have for you. Smiley smile

Oh ok, when you said separate I was picturing a completely separate room with just a door that is opened connecting them. If it's just a partial obstruction then Melissa suggestions are great! I would see if you can just have the head table in view of both rooms (if possible), that would be the most ideal for sure!!

    Hello Valerie,

Yes so true, I think this is a difficult thing to explain. The guests aren't THAT much out of the way. They are just a bit closer to the bar.

Also this venue is very unique, so the dance floor is upstairs and totaly seprate, so everyone has to move to a new location to see the dance. My main concern is for the speeches.

Yes we have signed the contact, we are very happy with the venue. Just want to work out a small kink.

    Thank you for your advise!

I personally would pick a venue that could accomodate all my guests, I can't imagine being one of the 25 people seated in another room missing out on dances, speeches, cake cutting, or just worring that I'm missing out on something. Even if it was announced, they would have to awkwardly come in and find somewhere to stand at the back or sides of the room to be a part of it.

I would definietly feel like I was less important to you than the people that got to sit in the same room as you. Also if you choose FH's family to sit in there or yours, it can create some anomosity.

Have you already signed the contract with this venue? Or can you cut your guest list to fit them all into the main room?

Yes very true, and there is certainly no wall it's just a bit far.

Thank you for your advise! I think it is best to talk to the venue a bit more about different possible arrangements.

I apprecaite your suggestions! Thank you Smiley smile

Are you definitely expecting to need the extra space? It might be a bit odd to only have only a couple of tables in "the cheap seats" ....but I might be picturing things a little more obstructed than realtiy.

Might is be possible to position the head table differently to see the other section better? Maybe ge a litte creative with angles? Or ask the venue how others have handled the problem- might be some good ideas there.

If the view is just a little off, I wouldn't worry TOO much, I've been to weddings where I can't see across the table becasue of insance centrepieces, let alone the head table....and some guests are seated facing away from the head table too remember!

I would say to make sure any announcements/ speeches are loud enough to reach ALL guests, and ensure you and your new husband do rounds and visit with all of your tables (maybe after dinner, before dessert?) to greet all of the guests who are near and far, so everyone feels they had some facetime. As long as there isn't a big wall in the middle, you are probalt just fine!
