Searching for a dress in Toronto, on

Christine, on November 26, 2018 at 16:39 Posted in Ontario 0 12

Where have you found your dream dress in Toronto, ON?

I am looking for a simple ball gown with an organza skirt, but all I've found so far are dresses with tulle skirts.

So far I've shopped at Felichia Bridal, but their selection of organza dresses was limited.

Thanks!

Christine

She never even told me her name!!! I will definitely consider doing alterations somewhere else.

I went to Kleinfeld last night and I can’t say it was a good experience. My consultant was not helpful at all. I tried on 6-7 dresses and she wouldn’t even say a word; it was super awkward! She didn’t offer any advice and wouldn’t comment on the fit of the dress on me, etc. That being said, I found a dress that I love! It’s a Mikaella, with the organza skirt I like and it’s in my budget. I’m not going to buy from Kleinfeld though!! There is a Paloma Blanca/Mikaella trunk show this weekend at Felichia Bridal and I have an appointment.

I am so sorry to hear that you had that experience there. I also felt the issue there with the "back room of cheaper dresses" which were still not cheap by any means. I had Mona help me herself and while she was great, I did feel like it was a pushy experience.

Who helped you? The good thing is that you got your dress picked! You could always do your alterlations elsewhere so you won't have to deal with them.

I'm so sorry to hear you had an awful time. It's supposed to be a magical experience. My first shopping experience wasn't that great, either actually, so I left.

The two shops I liked the most were in Mississauga but VERY close to the Etobicoke border:
Sophie's Gown Shoppe on Dundas just west of West Mall - my best friend bought her dress here.
Josy's Fashions on Lakeshore just west of Cawthra - this is where I got my dress. It's a tiny little shop, but Josy is THE BEST and she really knows her stuff!

It was so awful. The consultant started by showing me dresses that would "suit my body" - then remembered to ask what my budget was. When I told her, she basically laughed in my face and took me and my party into the back "discount" room. She was so confrontational, demanding to know what look I wanted, and when I said I wanted to try a few different styles so I could figure out what I liked best, she rolled her eyes and asked how she was supposed to help me if I didn't even know what I wanted? I tried on five dresses and she was fuming, talking over my mother and future mother in law, and then ended up leaving while I tried on dress number 5. My MOH had to help clip me in the dress.

I picked dress 5 (which I pulled off the rack myself), even though I wasn't completely sold on it - partly because I was so thrown off by the experience. It could just be a matter of a terrible consultant rather than a reflection of the whole store, but I will be sure to request a different consultant when I go back for my fitting.

I've noticed that organza is so difficult to find... everything is tulle lol. Enzoani dresses have a lot of organza going on. I'd say try to locate an authorized retailer and go from there (if it's within your budget).

What happened there? I went there to look and had a mostly good experience. I ultimately ended up getting my dress from somewhere else for various reasons.

DO NOT go to Mona Richie in Woodbridge. I got my dress there but it was a nightmarish experience. I am dreading having to go back for my fittings.

I found mine at David's Bridal in Mississauga. When I went they had their $99 sale happening and I happened to find my dress for that price. Mind you my budget is crazy small and I was not expecting to buy. I am lucky I didn't have to worry about alterations, my mom is very talented at sewing so helming the dress for her is a piece of cake. Just keep an open mind what I got I wouldn't have thought of in a million years.
