Save the Date Etiquette

KELLY, on April 14, 2023 at 11:31 Posted in Before the wedding 0 23

Good morning Beautiful people,

I have a dilemma, my father had been sick for some time and passed away over Easter. We had planned to send out our STDs in the next week or so. To be respectful, we aren't sure how long to wait to mail them out-any suggestions?

    Thank you Natasha,

With our wedding in October we couldn't wait too long to send them out. We delayed our fathers services and it has been a month since our father passed, my siblings requested we wait until they were over. We are adding an additional two weeks after to send them out.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I hope you feel his positive presence through the day and beyond Smiley smile

If most people are local, then you could wait until 6 months before the wedding. If many people are distance so they are traveling in, then I would wait until a few weeks after any ceremonies.

I'm so sorry for your loss, a father is usually a big part of the wedding and I'm sure he will be watching from above. On the part of STD, take your time sending them, make sure you collect yourself and your emotions, 6 months prior is a lot of time, you could even do them 4 or 5 month prior and than send the invites out at month 3. Your father would want you to keep going but always do it when your ready.

My siblings are in favour of us sending them out, but requested we wait until after the funeral

I'm so sorry for your loss, Kelly. Family leaving over a holiday is rough.

I would just personally send invites earlier. Do you have a lot of people travelling/needing accommodations? If not, you can probably get away with not sending Save the Dates.

But if you and your family don't have any superstitious/religious beliefs over sending wedding related news after a passing of a loved one, and you really want to send them, I would just go ahead and do it.

Again Kelly I am so sorry for your loss. If your dad is anything like you, he would want you to go on with your wedding and want you to be happy, he raised such an incredible person, you have a huge heart. After such a loss I feel like a wedding is needed. I think is perfectly fine to send them out, it's what he would have wanted.

    Big hugs.

I agree, I think skipping save the dates and sending out invites early is most appropriate.

I am incredibly sorry for your loss.
I think not sending them at all and early invitations would be best.
If you really want the save the dates sent, I wouldn’t think anything of it receiving it next month in May and the invitations a couple months later. We received invitations two months before a wedding, and didn’t think it was too last minute. The couple didn’t do save the dates, but told us I think a month or so before we received the invite.

I think it may be a bit soon. But if you wait any longer I feel like it would almost be pointless considering your wedding is 6 months away already.

You can skip them and send your invites out early. But if that is not preferred, unfortunately I would send the STD asap.
