Rustic Wedding Decor

Melissa, on May 19, 2021 at 12:56 Posted in DIY 0 9
Hello brides!
I am starting to think about decor for my wedding for next August. The theme is going to be rustic. We will need decor for ceremony any reception.
Looking specifically for:- Wooden archway for ceremony- Welcome sign- Seating chart sign- Table decor (wood slices for centrepieces, table numbers, candles, fake garland)- Vases for head table If anyone knows of any good places to rent these items from or if there are any good resources for DIY would be much appreciated!

Market places online are helpful to check out for décor as dollar stores may be the second for ideas on the lower end to make DIY projects. Try Kijiji, facebook, twitter for anyone selling and pinterest for ideas of what you like to have done. Country stores have great ideas of rustic since it seems the right concept of your décor. They may be able to customize items for you at your request. Online searches are also a great source to know where to rent if the option is open for this area.

Good tip! But yeah, lots of city folk might just pick things up randomly wherever not knowing about the consequences.

I guess because I've been foraging my whole life and never had this happen once I didn't think to mention it. When I bring my items in I delicately brush items off then soak in vinegar for several days - will not harm the items nor discolour them but gets rid of pests. And if you want to cure wood faster back in the oven.

One caution with any foraging of stuff like this, where you keep it in your house or apartment for extended periods, is to beware of ticks and other mites that can be in such materials. My fiancee originally thought of foraging stuff but her sister, being a member of the public health team, shot that idea down hard because each year she's had to deal with claims about infestation in a house.

Check out your local wedding sell/swap groups on Facebook. A lot of people are selling their wedding items and you might be able to find a few things that are rustic for a much lower price!

Congratulations! I'm this August 14 (our 15th anniversary). My advise is start foraging! I have been collecting wood, pine cones, pretty stones, planting perennials that are now coming back up and will be so nice for our home outdoor wedding. Plus a lot of the items we collected together on our hikes, camping, canoe trips so they have added meaning! I will also be using natural greenery like euonymus and holly leaves and even fresh pine. We are outdoor people and using what you find in nature is amazing. PLUS fake what do you afterwards? Have dust collectors? You don't want to have to dispose of items and sometimes they are hard to give away. Have fun!

One thing to consider is any DIY involving wood is going to cost a lot more than normal right now. Lumber prices have tripled or quadrupled in some cases since the start of the pandemic so something that cost someone $100 to make for their 2020 wedding will likely cost you a lot more now. Renting will likely be a better option since they're re-used items that were built a while ago.

Most decorators will have both modern and rustic pieces on hand. Look up ones in your area first to compare pricing and inventory and go from there.
