RSVP... Meal options

Natasha, on March 7, 2019 at 23:02 Posted in Wedding reception 0 13
Did/are you giving meal option for your wedding? If so, are you putting just the standard: meat, pescatarian, vegetarian? Or do you put the actual meats. I have two meat per plate so just wondering. So far I have the standard but I’m wondering I should put like chicken and steak
fish
and so forth. I don’t want to give away too much. I like the element of surprise. What do y’all think? Be honest.

Since your venue offers two meats per person I would probably just ask your guests if they have any allergies/dietary restrictions. That way you can notify your venue or caterers, and they’ll know how to beat prepare for your guests.

We are having a seated meal with chicken, fish, and a vegan option. We are having about 40 people, and there are lots of restrictions. Eight of us are vegans, a few vegetarians, many non-vegetarians that are lactose intolerant, a laundry list of food allergies, one severe celiac and another gluten sensitive. That doesn't even include anyone that'll be doing a cleanse! We didn't include the menu with the invitations, but we've shared it freely!

Meal options were put as general. Meat, Vegetarian and Kids meal to know what to provide everyone attending.

The menu placed on the tables were provided with all the information of meals being served to know as per meat and veg. This way it was known for anyone to see and know. Late night buffet was also put on the menu so that there was no question or announcement to make for when it was served and what was included. A picture of the menu to show.

We’re giving choices! We’re doing a steak option, chicken option, and vegetarian option.

We're either doing 1 meat and vegetarian option or 2 meats (beef tenderloin and chicken breast) and vegetarian option since we know 8 guests that are vegetarian, but there could be more out there.

If we do the two meat option, I'll put: beef tenderloin, chicken breast, and vegetarian as the options on the RVSPs.

If we only have the 1 meat option, we'll probably still write in that meat choice (either chicken or prime rib) as well as the vegetarian choice.

Either way, we'll also have a line for other dietary restrictions/allergies in case someone has an allergy and wants to avoid cross-contamination/is lactose-free, etc.

We just put down what the actual protein is. So we have chicken, salmon or vegetarian. There is about 4 ways that our venue can do the chicken and we will be picking which one we like best in a couple months.

But just for invites we went with the basics.

We’re not telling anyone beforehand, and there is only one main. I used to e a vegetarian (for 15 years - only gave it up for health reasons) but I always made it work when there was no veggie option. Plus I’m pretty sur not 1 of our 150 guests is a vegan or vegetarian!

I was very specific, I put the meat and the sides 'boneless beef short rib with vegetables and buttermilk mashed potatoes'

Food is my favourite thing, and the food at our venue is amazing- I wanted people to be fully informed when they made their food choice

I also agree with this! Surprise guests in other ways! Not their meals!

We are personally not because we are doing a buffet! HOWEVER! for a seated option I personally LOOOOOVE when the bride groom sends the actual meal for people to choose from! There have been a few times when I pick the chicken option and then the vegetarian ends up looking/sounding SO MUCH BETTER! I went to a wedding last year and the bride told me what exactly was being served for each option and I was so grateful because I could actually pick what I wanted based on the meal and not just chicken/beef/veg....

Nope! No meal options! We will be posting on our wedding website what food will be there and if they don't like it they can either eat before they come or pack something Smiley smile

If I were you I would put down the types of meat though, just saying meat would put some people not knowing if they need a diff option. Like my one friend can't eat red meat - so if she see's meat she would have to assume the worst and go with vegetarian but what if it was just chicken?!

I would put the actual meat down. Some people might like chicken but not steak, or if they see what type of fish you are serving, they might switch to the meat or vegetarian option.

A lot of people don't like to be surprised when it comes to their meals, so it's a lot safer to give some type of info upfront.
