Registry Inspiration

Amelia, on February 16, 2020 at 10:35 Posted in Before the wedding 1 13
My fiance and I have already lived together for years, so we don't need a lot of traditional housewares. We've been building a wishlist of some items we would like (hello sodastream) and put a few upgraded items on our registry (matching cutlery and new measuring cups!) but I'd love some inspiration.

What are some less traditional or fun things you've bought as wedding gifts or registered for?

    Hey Amelia,

A friend of mine recently got married and instead of household items, they asked for people to contribute to their honeymoon. There were options for people to gift them room upgrades, massages, breakfast in bed. Even options for people to upgrade their airfare tickets. I thought that was a neat idea and I'm considering doing that for mine as well.

People are registering for their honeymoons or excursions or dinners etc. you could also get some new furniture or something a little more pricey people can pair up and buy you

Yea that's a good idea! When we went to do our registry, we were told that lots of people like to go together on a gift so don't be scared to register for the larger, pricier items. We registered at Bed Bath and Beyond and we were told that after our weddings, the items that weren't purchased can be bought for 20% off if it was something that we really wanted.

We haven't settled on what to do for our honeymoon, but I did find a site that allows you to ask for gifts and for money for renovations or honeymooning so that will come in hand!

We aren't doing a registry for our wedding just because I've lived on my own before and have a bunch of stuff we can use.

But for Christmas this year, we asked our families to get us gifts for our home rather than anything else. We got scotch glasses (for FH), I got my FH a pizza pan thing for the BBQ that he was pretty excited for LOL. Everything else was fairly traditional just newer - knife set, ironing board, cutlery, dishes, etc.

Also a lawn mower was gifted to us.

Some fun things we registered for were:

    Margarita pitcher and glasses

    Moscow mule mugs

    Alcohol dispenser

    Home Depot gift cards

    Lawn games

Custom Christmas ornaments that have our names on them

And of course the rest was more along the lines of new cutlery, dishes, etc.

Keep in mind, some places will allow you to fill out your registry with a bit of a discount after the wedding, so if it isn’t bought you can get it for a cheaper price 😋 also, with larger items, you can kind of through it out there to people that you won’t be offended if people pool together to get something (apparently some guests think it may be considered rude to do joint gifts, but if it’s going towards a large item you want, I don’t see what the problem would be)

Some of our more untraditional items were a propane fire pit for the back, a painting, a chandelier, a dining tent for camping, a fooseball table, and a handheld clothing steamer.

We don't have a KitchenAid mixer. I'm tempted to register for one but I feel like it's such a big gift to ask for.
We're going to put on some Ikea and Home Depot gift cards asking people to help find our kitchen renovation. Hopefully that fills the registry up a bit!

We are in the same boat, we've lived together for years and have everything we need so the registry was hard. So we ended up looking at what could potentially be replaced and adding that. We also added attachments for the things we do have such as my KitchenAid mixer. Other things like decor items were added because I love picture frames and such in our home.
