Registries

Laura, on August 22, 2023 at 22:43 Posted in Before the wedding 0 7

We have a Honeyfund set up, and it is posted on our website. Of the ones that declined to attend, do we care if they don't send anything? In the old days (read: my first marriage, back in the 1700s, lol), that was unheard of, but these are new days. Plus, we don't need anything - our registry is only for the honeymoon (a cheap one) because, well, we are broke. Just curious, is all.

So many things have changed as the years have passed. For me it comes down to it being something they want to do while younger generations have a different way of thinking. If someone of an older generation wants to give you something despite not attending I would accept it graciously.

We are having a very intimate wedding, and everyone is having to pay for their travel and accommodations. So we’re definitely not expecting any gifts from anyone, especially those who can’t make it because if valid reasons. Personally, if I’m close to the person I do send a gift when I can’t make it. I’ve never felt like it was expected though.

I had this discussion here last year because my Fiancé's cousin invited us to his wedding, but we were attending another wedding that I had said yes too before we ever met. (covid), and his mother told us its customary to gift even if you are not attending. This was the first I've ever heard of this.

I honestly do not expect anything, especially if you aren't attending why gift something?

I get the quandary! I had a bit of a hard time not taking it personally when someone who I’m very close to RSVPd no and then….. that was it. I’m not materialistic and wouldn’t expect anything, it just feels kind of dismissive of a huge day in my life. Anyone I’m not close to I don’t expect anything to be honest, and wouldn’t take it personally either way.

Thanks! I have some folks - older - that cannot come and want to send something, and I don't want to offend by saying no, but this helps!
