Reception Music

Brenda, on March 6, 2020 at 16:07 Posted in Wedding reception 0 10

We haven't been able to secure anyone for the entertainment part of the reception, is anyone out there looking to do it themselves and have some tips?

We are DIYing music for our wedding. We are renting equipment for less than $200 & will just make a play list & will have either our MC or another friend help out playing it.

Spotify is great - plus all you have to do is ask people on here for their playlists and you can go through them and add their songs to yours to make an awesome one! (Here's mine: Tori Doll's Spotify Social/Wedding Playlist)

This might be super obviously but Spotify premium so no adds and download all playlists to your device Incase wifi is bad. Defiantly use crossfade too.

We have been having the most fun with this as well! It has been a couple of date nights going through songs and placing them in order and building the playlists. I think it is SO worth it to have such a curated evening of music.

    Hi Brenda,

Wedding Wire has a great selection of vendors to choose from, I found my vendors through WW. They also come with reviews.

Another suggestion is ask your venue, they may have a preferred vendor list available or any vendors you may have hired. They can help you reach out to good vendors. And the ones who are not that good.

We're using Spotify as well! They have a Crossfade setting that allows the music to blend more so there isn't any dead air. We will be asking for song requests with our RSVPs so that we can build a playlist our guests really want to dance to. We have also asked 2 friends to emcee so they can change the song if no one is dancing or start our party playlt after our first dance is over.

I asked a married friend what DJ she used because I remember dancing the whole night at her wedding, it turns out she used Spotify too and I didn't even remember.

FH and I thankfully were on the same page in regards to music from the get-go, we are using Spotify for all our music! I've loved going through all the songs and placing them in a good order, which I'll admit has been time consuming but it's been so worth it in my opinion. Then we've got a "song request" line on our RSVP cards so I've made sure to leave room for them too and so that people can get excited when their song comes on

    Hello! Welcome to WW.

I am finding that more and more bride/grooms are DIYing their own music. FH and I are doing this actually. We are going to use premium spotify to create playlists for various parts of the evening, download them so they can be played offline and throw them onto a phone that will connect to a speaker. We have asked a good friend to be on top of managing this all night, in case it cuts out or to control volume etc. I think that will work just fine.

For a small portion of the dance, FH is also going to do a bit of DJing as he used to do this part time and still has all his equipment!
