Reading for Niece

Breanne, on April 24, 2018 at 20:31 Posted in Wedding ceremony 0 8
Hi ladies,

This may be a long shot but we want our niece (12 years old) to do the reading for our ceremony. She is incredibly eloquent and intelligent - we actually want her to choose her reading (with her mom's supervision).

Any suggestions on books we can give her to choose what she reads - more of a simple love poem book.

This is such a sweet idea and ceremony readings for children isn't something I've thought about before!! I found some really cute ideas I think she could totally do!

Some Things Go Together by Charlotte Zolotow:

Pairs of things that go together.
    Pigeons with park
    Stars with dark
    Sand with sea
    and you with me.
    … Hats with heads
    Pillows with beds
    Sky with blue
    and me with you.

Your Personal Penguin by Sandra Boynton:

    I like you a lot.
    You're funny and kind.
    So let me explain
    What I have in mind.
I want to be your personal penguin.
I want to walk right by your side.
I want to be your personal penguin.
I want to travel with you far and wide.

Getting Married Means You'll Have by Nicholas Gordon:

    Getting married means you'll have
    Someone's hand to hold,
    Even when you're feeling sick,
    Even when you're old.

It means when you sit down to eat,
    Someone will be there,
So you won't have to tell your day
    To an empty chair.

It means that when you need some help,
    Someone will help out,
    Someone always near to you
So you won't have to shout.

But best of all is when it's time
To turn out all the lights:
You won't have to be alone
    Those long and scary nights.

So even though you don't have toys,
    You don't have to care:
Once you're married you can be
    Each other's teddy bear.

I Like You by Sandol Stoddard Warburg:

I like you and I know why

I like you because you are a good person to like

I like you because when I tell you something special, you know it's special

And you remember it a long, long time

You say, Remember when you told me something special

    And both of us remember

When I think something is important you think it's important too

    We have good ideas

When I say something funny, you laugh

I think I'm funny and you think I'm funny too...

    ...I can't remember when I didn't like you

It must have been lonesome then

Even if it was the 999th of July

    Even if it was August

Even if it was way down at the bottom of November

I would go on choosing you

And you would go on choosing me

    Over and over again

And that's how it would happen every time.

There are also a lot of great quotes from the Winnie the Pooh books:

“If ever there is tomorrow when we’re not together… there is something you must always remember. You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think. But the most important thing is, even if we’re apart… I’ll always be with you.”

“If you live to be a hundred, I want to live to be a hundred minus one day so I never have to live without you.”

    I strongly agree with this!

I'm assuming this isn't a church wedding? Because I know they can be quite strict with the readings you're allowed to do (has to be a selection from the bible)

Not that she couldn't read one of those! But I think a love poem from a 12 year old would be so sweet!

I think that the Chicken Soup For the Soul books would be a great place to find a tasteful and appropriate poem for a 12 year old.
