Raffle

Alexandria, on April 21, 2019 at 10:04 Posted in Before the wedding 0 6
Hello all,

My sister recently just got engaged. She wants to do a raffle as opposed to a stag and doe. I think this is a great idea as I am planning my own stag and doe right now and it's really stressful.

Does anyone know if you need to purchase any licensing for a raffle? Any special rules that need to be followed?

    Becky,
We want to hold a 50-50 draw in lieu of a stag and doe. We want to sell tickets from now until the wedding, then announce the winner at the wedding. Do we need a licence?

If it’s just a raffle you don’t need a license if your doing more of a silent auction type event, you will need a license

We're doing a raffle/silent auction type of thing with a few games where you can win either a few prizes or more raffle tickets. We're in Ontario and I would love to have an idea of what kind of prizes others have used?

We are doing a raffle for my friends wedding- One rule you have to have posted is that they have to answer a skill tested question- even if 5+2 lol some people do big prizes or buck of booze. There isn't a license you need for it in Ontario- unless you want to advertise it publically. If you want more info, feel free to message me and I can show you few different tickets from my friends of example of prizes!

Like a simple 50/50? or are there prizes involved?

Either way, I assume you would have to still acquire a license for it. Here in MB we have the option of a liquor license, a raffle license, or a combo for our socials. I would think that they have a similar option for Ontario and that it would just mean getting the one for only a raffle instead of the combo. (I tried taking a look on the Ontario website but it is so difficult to navigate compared to MyLGCA.ca for Manitoba...)
