Questions about Newfoundland!

Katherine, on January 9, 2020 at 08:09 Posted in Newfoundland and Labrador 0 4
Hi all Newfoundland brides! We’re planning on going there for our honeymoon and I’m thrilled. We’re starting on the west coast and driving to the east. Planning on staying in gros morne for a few days and doing a few hiking tours, stopping in terra nova for 2 nights and then St. John’s for 4 days. This will be the last week of August, first week of September.

Terra nova-what trails do you recommend? Will it be warm enough to swim? St. John’s- we’re staying downtown but have a car, could probably figure out the bus system-best place to get screeched in? Best restaurants? Best attractions? Cape spear at sunrise is on our to do list and ferry land.

My fiance and I love it there. We've been to St.John's twice in the last two years. We rented car both times (I'd recommend trying to rent one outside of the airport if possible to save on airport fees). We love the freedom of driving ourselves - we drove about 2 hours out, visiting a few places (for whale watching/iceberg tours). We also stay close to downtown, often walking through parks and streets with the most interesting and colorful buildings. We have a guide book and bring it with us when we travel there.

    Bring layers! Smiley smile

Check out the Newfoundland and Labrador website! And order the travel guide (it’s free). I’m from NL and I still use the travel guide because there’s so many neat places in there! It probably won’t be warm enough to swim then, but if it’s a late summer it may be!

Hey there, Katherine! This sounds like an amazing honeymoon. I'm sure you both can't wait to get away Smiley smile You should check out the Lonely Planet website for more information. There is tons of info on things to see and do, along with restaurants!

My fiance and I went to St. John's in May, he has family there.
I totally recommend Signal Hill. If you can find parking near the battery you can easily walk up to the site and follow the coast back down. We didn't know that at the time but we decided to go by ourselves and wound up back in the battery where we started! Fantastic views and barely any railings to block your view of what feels like the edge of the world.

I would recommend layers as the weather is unpredictable and it can be super windy (there are barely any trees and to a New Brunswicker that was weird) It was definitely NOT warm enough to swim when we went, we saw about a dozen icebergs in late May, but August should be significantly warmer!
We ate at Bernard Stanley (gastro pub) and it was so good! If you're up for super fancy go to Raymond's, they have an exotic dessert my coworkers won't shut up about. Mallard Cottage in Quidi Visit is also great.
