Question about the songs

Jennifer, on March 15, 2020 at 12:52 Posted in Wedding reception 0 7
Hi y'all, just wondering about the specifics for entrance song and first dance song. Are these the same song? And if they are not the same do you play the full length of the song or just a snippet? Same for the dad/bride and mother/groom songs? Do they dance to the full length of the song and what if it's a long song, should it be shortened? How are y'all doing yours?

I like your idea for playing the entrance song later in the evening and thanks for the info, super helpful!

We are having a different song for entrance and first dance. Probably going to cut down the first dance because its 5 minutes and we do not want to dance to that by ourselves that long. I have heard that 3 minutes is about the average length and the most ideal for songs. The entrance song usually gets cut off as its just used for the entrance but we are planning on playing it in full later in the evening!

The entrance song and first dance are usually two different songs. The entrance will only be played until you are seated though. You can shorten your first dance song though if it is too long.

We are playing the full song for the parent dances and our first dance though. None of our songs are overly long, so we arent too worried.

They are two separate songs and yes you would play snip-its of the song.

For the dances the songs can be any length you feel comfortable with.

We are using our DJ to be the MC, he is great and will do it at no extra charge. he is well know in his business and I found him through wedding wire.

I often listen to many different podcast and they have helped a ton when it comes to planning.

We're doing our entrance and first dance separate.

Our entrance will be before dinner and our first dance will be just before dancing so we have different songs

We picked a shorter song for our first dance, but I've heard of the emcee directing others onto the dancefloor for longer songs. Ours is just over 3 minutes, the same with the father daughter dance.

Entrance song and first dance song are typically 2 different songs. The entrance one is something upbeat for the announcement and will just be a snippet unless the bride and groom want to do a fun dance to it. Some bride and grooms go right from the entrance song to their first dance song right after though if that's how you want to do it.
FH and I decided to do the entrance song then just join cocktail hour, and since we'll be served dinner first, we'll use the opportunity while our guests finish their dinner to do our first dance so there's no wait time between the guests finishing dinner to opening up the dance floor for them.
Dad/bride and mother/groom can be whatever length you want it to be. I'll be dancing with my grandpa for my father/daughter dance and he's got some troubles with his legs, so we'll be shortening the song we chose so he doesn't hurt/strain himself too much.
Basically, it's all up to you and what works with your timeline and preferences.
