Processional/recessional Song?

Derek, on March 11, 2022 at 01:45 Posted in Wedding ceremony 0 12
I am at a loss here! My future wife is walking down the aisle to a song she wants to surprise me with. I'm trying to come up with ideas for myself and my groomsmen etc., to walk down the aisle and take our places to, or a recessional song as the wedding party leaves for photos etc. An idea came to me to use an old Scottish wedding song called 'Mairi's Wedding' (it's been covered by numerous artists, including the High Kings, the Corries, the Chieftains and the Irish Rovers). Numerous videos of it can be seen on YouTube.

However it seems a little fast-paced and I don't know if it's appropriate for this kind of thing. Ideas, anyone? And if anyone has ideas for other processional/recessional songs, I'd like some ideas!

You can look into Country Music Awards nominee lists from the past few years. Take a listen to some of the songs and see which works.

She is really into country music but my knowledge of country music artists/songs is limited, mostly to those going back to the 1990s! Surprise is not necessarily the intention here but if it does that's an unexpected plus. I will have to try to find out more from her.

Do you know some of your fiancee's favourite musicians? If you really want to surprise her, pick a song from one of those artists instead of Dan + Shay or Ed Sheeran since they're such popular wedding staples. Of course, if she likes Dan + Shay or Ed Sheeran, go for it but unless she actually really like songs like From the Ground Up, 10,000 Hours, Perfect, etc, it may not feel as personal or special because they're played at so many weddings.

'10,000 Hours' is the song name? That's not one I'm familiar with.

You want to make your future wife surprised to a song she would not expect, 10,000 hours seems slower paced to walk down if you do like that song. A suggestion if that helps to match your fiance choice.

Ask your fiancee (assuming she's the one who's making that decision). It would be good to know if they're walking as an instrumental or a cover instead of the original recording.

We are using a more upbeat song for the recessional

I have no idea what the bridesmaids are walking down to. Not sure either one of us has any ideas for that. I just know my fiancee is keeping her song a surprise.

I think Mairi's Wedding is fine for a recessional. Something upbeat as everyone leaves the altar would keep the energy levels up.

Do you know what your bridesmaids are walking down to? If you do, find a song that compliments the tone of that one to help make the procession feel less jarring. Of course, if your favourite songs are stylistically different, you don't have to follow what they're doing.
