Premarital Counselling

Kate, on January 9, 2022 at 17:25 Posted in Before the wedding 0 5
Hi all!
Curious to know if anyone has done/is going to do premarital counselling? I’ve always been a believer in therapy and recently decided I’d feel better if we did this though I know my fiancé is a bit hesitant.

Any suggestions? Something online (and even free!) would be ideal.
Thanks!! Smiley smile

My fiancé and I decided to do premarital counselling before our wedding and we found it to be quite useful. I would say we have a pretty solid relationship, but doing premarital counselling really helped us think through some of the things we might not have thought about. The best part was the package we booked was covered by our benefits.

We booked a premarital education package here: https://couplesontheroad.com/

My fiance are not doing premartial counselling. But when I was looking for officiants I saw that a few of them offer this as a package with their officiant services. If you haven't already booked an offciant yet you may want to look for someone who does this.

My fiancé and I are planning to start pre-marriage counselling next month. It was one of the first things we agreed on doing in our wedding prep. We’ve found a social worker in our neighborhood who specifically offers pre-marriage sessions (some of it covered by benefits) so it was a fairly easy choice to make, but I am a huge fan of affordable, virtual options.

Talk openly to your fiance why you wish to do this. Counselling and any type of mental health help tend to have a lot of stigma, and understandably that leads to people hesitating to seek help on that front. He may think you want to do it because you believe there is something wrong with the relationship when he doesn't feel the same. Walk him through what your goals are, highlight how it can be a positive experience, and be open to his feedback.
