Postpone September 2020 Wedding?

Patricia, on April 14, 2020 at 20:58 Posted in WeddingWire 0 13

Wondering what other September 2020 brides are doing?

We want to hold out hope, however our venue has limited 2021 dates, and don't want to wait too long and miss out on a date we want.

I have guests/family out of province and out of country attending, and really want relative who are at a high risk to be there. I am unsure if travel will even be allowed in 5 months.

Just looking for insight on how others are making the decision to postpone or to wait!

Thanks!

Thank you everyone!! We have officially postponed until 2021. Our venue has been amazing and indicated that if everything is back to "normal" by our September date, we would be able to likely go forward.

This is a hard decision, and these are weird times, so i am wishing everyone the best in these times.

Unless the absolute worst happens and we still can't have a gathering of any kind, I'm pretty sure we're keeping our date and just reducing our guest list as much as we need to. My parents don't live in the country and have booked a cottage here for the month of our wedding so postponing isn't really an option for us. FH's family was also getting carried away with their guests and we were getting a little bummed about how big the list was getting anyway so this may be a blessing in disguise for us.

    Hello~

Our venue has been in contact with us and suggested a few options if unable to have our wedding this September. Since our deposit is non-refundable and we love our venue, we've decided to have a reserved date for 2021, pretty much exactly one year later. There were already limited options with our venue for Saturday weddings in 2021. I'd suggest seeing what dates are available and it you're able to get a tentative wedding date (remembering to check with all other vendors also) For us, we didn't want to loose out on our photographer, catering and officiant. Luckily, all are available for the same date next year, if needed. We are waiting until the very beginning of July to make our decision. Still trying to be positive and hopeful and still plan on sending out or invitations this month. Still not sure if my dress will show up on time, or be much later and wondering how alterations will go, if and when the dress shop opens again. Also don't have bridesmaids dresses in, but they were ordered back in December..

The not knowing is driving me a little crazy but I need to just accept that this is the situation right now and out of my control and hope things turn around and that everyone stays safe and healthy. #1

Your venue should have reached out to you or provided any information if the wedding was to be postponed or cancellation fees would be refunded if they are not allowing weddings to take place by then. Getting in touch with them is also good to know what happening and knowing your options. Keeping you family, friends and other guests up-to-date is good so they know if your date is still taking place or arrange with the travel agency for a different date.

2021 year doesn't sound bad though couples have the toughest choice to think the same as you two not wanting to wait for another year. Unknowing when this may end, waiting is the game we are in right now until everything gets back to normal.

That is exactly what we are hoping to do. We are hoping to be able to hold a back up date.

We're waiting until July to decide. We haven't even ordered our invitations yet. Our venue has been amazing, checking in to see how we're doing. Not pressuring us to make any changes or decisions. No one has their dresses/suits yet except me. If it comes down to it, we will postpone or reduce the guest list. All that matters is that everyone is safe and healthy.

I know, we were just coming to the reality that a honeymoon likely won’t happen this year. If I still want a fall wedding then we need to rebook soon, but if everything’s fine by September we’ll regret that decision. No clue what the right answer is!

We are in the same boat as you. Our venue also has limited 2021 options. It’s really disheartening, because I can’t even plan... our invitations need to go out, and I don’t want to send them out just in case. I don’t have a cake, my bridesmaids don’t have their dresses, the groomsmen and my FH don’t have suits. If our wedding goes on, will we be able to go on a honeymoon? Everything is so uncertain. My bridal shower is for next month and that is getting cancelled with no hopes of rescheduling it before the wedding. It’s all just a big mess.

Depending on your vendor... reach out and see if they can hold a second date for you in case this does not work out. My venue has been wonderful in that sense so I’ve been very lucky. A lot could change in a month though. We are waiting until June to make a final decision and our wedding is supposed to be August

I agree I think it’s safe to say travel bans will still be in place, and who knows about gatherings.

I think it’s hard because I want to be hopeful and positive but also realistic!

Ours is hopefully in October. We're waiting until July and we will decide based on travel restrictions from the states as well as government guides on gatherings even though it's before the wedding. My future in-laws are in Wisconsin and Newfoundland and it's not fair for them to miss it.

Right now our postponment plan is to hopefully elope and have an anniversary reception next October. I'm enjoying making backup plans! It's been fun to think of what we can change from our original day and what we can try to keep.
