Postpone our wedding

Ally, on April 12, 2020 at 08:47 Posted in WeddingWire 0 21
My fiancé and I were suppose to be getting married July 31st, of this year. Due to the circumstances yesterday I came to the realization that our wedding wouldn’t be happening. After hours of talks and tears we decided it was best for us to postpone our wedding until May 2021 this way we can celebrate with all our friends and family without having to leave anyone out. This was a very hard decision but it was for the best.

I totally get how you feel. We postponed our June 27, 2020 wedding to September 25, 2021. It feels SO far away. We didn’t even want to push it out that far but that was the only date all our vendors lined up. As you said, it’s for the better.

I haven't postponed yet but all vendors and my venue have us in for May 23 next year. I haven't had a chance to really be emotional yet about it but i'm sure its coming! I feel like it just seems so far away! More time to save I suppose..

Yep! I anticipate a bit of a wave of emotions over the next couple of months but overall feel so much better about it!
I’m so glad your vendors were available, too! ☺️

I feel this. We postponed from June 27 to April 30, 2021 and after I got over the initial disappointment I was so relieved and actually started to get excited again. We were also lucky that all of our vendors are available for our new date.

There wasn't one specific trigger to be honest. We were following the spread and when it became local was when I think it became "real" to us and we started having discussions about the next couple of days, weeks, months... with our wedding date originally in July it was all just cutting it a little too close for us.

We have family coming from South Africa and because of all the shut downs they were having troubles with travel visas ...and just the uncertainty of travel overall! It's important to us for everyone to be there so we just decided to push it back.

When I reached out to our venue, they were totally cool with it. We even got a better selection of dates lol! (We originally wanted August... so it worked out!). Then all our vendors were able to switch over and no one charged any additional fees or penalties. Everyone was amazing and I think it made the decision to postpone that much more comforting.

My only thing is, people are going to need to have to get used to me sneaking off to wear my wedding dress hahaha! It was hard enough waiting for it before.. now add another year!!

Best decision you can make. We went from July 2020 --> August 2021. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't extremely disappointed...but ever since we got confirmation from all of our vendors, I feel like I'm back to being just as excited as before.

Best of luck to you guys!

It's definitely not an easy decision. I keep focusing on how if we got married now we would be missing out on all of the people we love sharing our day with us. Waiting until May will give you more time to save up too, so you may be able to add a few extras your original plan didn't include!

I'm sorry again! And you postponing is totally selfless and responsible Smiley smile Everyone will understand and your love will still and always go on!! Try to look in the silver lining -- an extra year to plan more and save up for a better and nicer honeymoon!

I wanted to make sure our guest are comfortable with being in a large crowd and we do have a lot of guest that are over 50 years also a good chunk of our guest are from out of town we really just wanted everyone to be safe and healthy and have a great time at our wedding. All of my vendors and my venue had no problem changing the date no one charged us any fees.

I'm so sorry ❤️ I'm a summer bride as well (August 8) and I'm slowly learning to accept that our wedding most likely won't happen.....What made you guys ultimately decide to postpone? Also did your venue charge any fees or have any penalizations?

Its a rough year for what you have decided to do based on the situation given. Along with you, many couples face the same fear and have done the same as you have or cancelled for the time being to wait until everything has cleared up.

After the whole decision making of postponing the wedding to next year, it seems best to not lose out your venue and vendors already put together as a team. Its great they are working to your new date change.

We were supposed to get married July 25 this year, but we realized pretty early on that postponing was an eventuality. About 40% of our guests are 50 years old or older so for their health and benefit, as well as everyone else's of course, we're postponing until June 2021. It was a hard decision because we really wanted to get married on our dating anniversary and it just happened to land on a Saturday this year, but it just wasn't meant to be. Luckily all but one of our vendors was able to change to our new date, so it's not much of a loss with all things considered.

I’m so sorry you had to postpone! 2020 has really thrown some curveballs! Safety and health takes precedence over everything so I totally
    understand your decision.

We’re still holding out hope for us but if we have to cancel; we will. What a year it has been!
