Post wedding event

Hi all,

My fiancé and I are getting married in Ontario but planning on having some sort of event back in Alberta so extended family and friends can make it. What kind of celebration would you suggest? Also, how would you decorate/plan? Like should we do it all, cake, dance, meal, ect? I'm so lost. I want to have something so I can celebrate with everyone but having them all come to us would be too much time and money for most of my friends and going back for a wedding would be super hard to plan a wedding from across the country.

My sister got married in Australia, so my parents had something here for her when she came home. They basically ordered a bunch of food to the house, had a cake and drinks. It was just like a big family get together! We decorated the house a little bit, but nothing super over the top!
It really comes down to what you want to plan. Some people do a second formal reception wth everyone, and some will do an informal get together

No bride and groom dance or anything. We will have music going and I know some of my family will dance for fun! My parents will definitely say a little thank you (like they do at all parties), and my FH and I will also thank everyone for joining in the celebration with us.

I like this idea, I like the idea of it being more casual. Are you going to do a dance or any speeches?

My parents are hosting something like this the month after our destination wedding. They're calling it "A toast to the bride and groom" and there will be food and drinks. The overall vibe will be fun party and less wedding, though. We aren't looking to mimic a local reception.

That's definitely an option. Thank you for your input. I will discuss it with my partner tonight.

Maybe you could either label it as a 2nd reception if you are wanting to wear your dress again and do all the regular reception type of activities? Otherwise I would label it more along the lines of an "after party".
