Plated meal or buffet?

Rayanne, on March 15, 2022 at 18:38 Posted in Wedding reception 0 26

There are pros and cons to any meal service which one did you decide on your wedding? What was it that appealed to you about it?

We decided the best thing for us was actually family style. I didn't have to get everyone's meal selection or plan a detailed table chart. We can just do assigned tables rather than assigned seats. We like that on the day of you can decide what you want to eat rather than trying to remember what you choose two months ago. With the FH's parents we were also worried about a buffet where they would have to try to carry their plates back to the table. Family style is just the best of both worlds to us. Everyone can have as much of what they enjoy most.
I really can't wait for the big day! The food is going to be amazing 馃槉

We are paying per person rather than per table still. I love my venue. They have been so amazing since the beginning.

We are doing a buffet, with choices from 3 salads and 3 entrees, plus vegetables, rice & potatoes and a dessert selection. Like another poster said, easiest to let the guests decide!

I love family style! You get the choice without the lineups. But other than Chinese banquets, none of the venues we visited offered this type of service. The only downside I find with family style is since you pay by the table, you're usually forced to fill a table of 10, which may not work depending on the make up of your social circles.

We opted for a plated meal over buffet because in our experiences, the protein from a plated meal is always more interesting or better prepared compared to a buffet. You get better cuts of meat, a better selection of sauces and preparation methods etc that leads to a tastier plate.

Oh I think my favourite buffet is a breakfast one! I like that no one has to get up at our wedding too. It is sometimes hard enough for older people to walk never mind carrying a plate.

We are going with plated. I prefer it and then people don鈥檛 have to get up from their seats. We will do a beef or chicken option.
I do love a good buffet though! Especially breakfast haha

I think it is pretty standard for one possibly two choices for a plated meal. If its plated it is definitely a bit harder for seating charts if they have two options. We actually haven't had our tasting yet but will soon. (I've been to a wedding at the venue and the food was so good I'm not worried.) I'm so glad to give options to my guests.

    We are doing buffet style!

I鈥檓 not sure if this is what most caterers do but when we were considering plated, the option was only one meal, which we didn鈥檛 think would work for our guests. But with buffet style we were able to pick 2 proteins 2 salads , 3 starch, 1 veg medley, and dessert!

We had our tasting in January and it was the best food I鈥檝e ever tasted lol! I鈥檓 definitely making time at my wedding to eat!! We go over finalizing our menu in June!

That sounds so good! We have the standard chicken and beef for dinner but we have a huge antipasto cocktail hour so anyone seafood loving people can get their fix then 馃槅
My FH's work had a Christmas buffet every year and I think the mushroom ravioli was one of my favourite things on the menu, I bet the butternut squash ravioli will be so good.

We're going with Buffet so that all of our guests can pick whatever they want and if they want second's they defiantly can instead of just a plated dinner. Our dinner will include:

Assortments of breads & butter, Charred Vegetable & Grain Salad, Garden Green Salad, Grilled Vegetable Antipasto Platter, Carved Char-Grilled Beef Striploin, Citrus Butter Based Lingcod, Butternut Squash Ravioli, Mashed Potatoes, and Chef's Mini Desserts

We decided to do a buffet of ham, ribs, chicken and veggie chilli and then sides! My fiance and I are doing a Backyard wedding so it seemed to fit perfect doing it this way, I also like it when theres different "wedding food" options. Two weeks after ours we are going to a wedding that will be more formal plated dinner I am pretty sure!

I can see how a buffet may be a bit harder as the number of guests increase. Never thought of that before. I think it will still be smooth with 30 people.

I've always liked being able to have a little bit of everything instead of picking one meal. Doing anything other than buffet never crossed my mind. Our cater also only offers buffet so it worked out easy for us
