I like buffet in theory, but with so many dietary restrictions and allergies to work around, I'm going for plated so we can make sure that there aren't any issues with cross contamination. I had thought about trying to get foods that work for everyone and having that as a buffet, but it was very difficult to come up with things without splitting it up into at least 2 groups. So we're hoping for two plated options that will cover all the needs.

Thats awesome that it went well. We also had an option for family style as well but decided on the buffet meal instead

We went with a family style dinner, so a mix of both I guess. Dishes or food were placed at each table and everyone served themselves without having to get up and wait in a buffet line. Was a really nice idea for our more intimate wedding.

Thanks Amanda, all of our guests are meat eaters so it worked out well. Plus our venue included extra side options for us at no charge

Because our venue is small, they only offer plated. I got a good deal $75 a person, was on their website and they are now $95 a plate.

We're going with a buffet! That way everyone can eat what they want and avoid what they don't with less food waste of people not eating things. Plus this way we can offer more options to our guests without having to pay a ridiculous amount extra (the charge for offering multiple proteins to our guests, which they had to confirm prior to the wedding day, was way more than just doing a buffet where we get 2 proteins).

We chose a bbq buffet, our guests have a bigger selection of meats and sides that way. Allergies and dislikes won’t be an issue

We decided on a buffet, due to guests' different tastes we could offer them a lot more choices.

We thought the same thing with guests wanting seconds of something. I even went up for seconds on our prime rib and butternut squash ravioli lol

We decided on a sit down, plated dinner. No specific reason, that's what we and most of our guests are accustom to.

We went for buffet style with wine/water served at the table.

For us it was not a matter of price but more so our guests and how they are... for example when it came to meats some prefer more well done therefore the chef could better accommodate them as they were being served instead of remembering all of these requests and taking to the table. Also portions - I like the idea of people getting however much they want. Plated meal is very romantic and more formal so I like the idea but just did not find it suitable for us and our guest list.

For us it was the opposite
Our buffet options were higher end choices then the plated dinner and out buffet price was the highest compared to the plated dinner

In my experience, buffets can be slightly cheaper and they offer options for guests, which can be nice. But the plated meal options tend to give you higher end choices ie the cut of steak options on a plated meal is always superior to the buffet option.
