Picnic style decoration ideas

Emilie, on June 19, 2020 at 15:01 Posted in Wedding reception 0 6

Hi everyone,

So with everything going on I had to change my plans a little and my decorations that I had planned no longer fit the setting of the reception.

Originally I was going to decorate the tables with a terrarium surrounded with cards that had one of my paintings and my fiance's photo editing work printed on it. These card would also be turned into thank you cards.

But with all the regulations and safety precautions, we have decided to move the reception outside. We are turning it into a picnic style lunch. Unfortunately, I do not want the cards to get blown away with the wind and my fiance doesn't want to put the terrariums on the picnic blanket for fear that they will spill over. We are still having some tables for those that cannot sit on the ground which will hold our terrariums.

I am currently looking for ideas for other small and simple decoration that would do great outside and in the picnic style.

Thank you!

Hi everyone. Thank you for your ideas. I did end up miniature baskets but they are unfortunately smaller then expected. Returning them is going to cost more then I'd like so I'm trying to rethink what they would hold (with out spending too much). Any ideas?

This is such a cute idea. You could go with the cute gingham blankets or find some in your wedding colors, maybe go for an eclectic mismatched vibe too.

I like the idea of painting rocks to hold the blankets down, maybe paint them with the same succulents or flowers the terrariums will hold? Or your initials and wedding colors.
You could get some of the artwork blown up, and I like Hanks idea about displaying them on easels. You could also build a little gallery wall style display and hang them framed on painted plywood, maybe have a blank frame without wood behind it as a little photo booth so people can insert themselves into the gallery wall.

Oh these are all cute ideas!

I'm not crafty but when I hear picnic I immediately think of a cute wicker picnic basket with that classic gingham print red blanket. Maybe you could make little picnic baskets with gingham napkins coming out of them with your date? I also like the painted rock idea or something with wood stumps like Hank mentioned.

How about painting and designing rocks!
Its heavy so it will hold down regardless if its on a blanket or table, and its very picnic like.
You could even do your cards still and just use the rock to hold everything down - the only thing I could think of is maybe doing custom table cloths ?

Just shooting out ideas, everything also depends on budget as well.

How about mini wood easels? You can use a bit of double sided tape or gum tack to adhere the cards to the easels and they could make great "centerpieces."

You can also use wood stumps to stabilize the terrariums if you want them on the floor as well.

I'm suggesting wood since you're outdoors and I figure you can make it a bit rustic-like.
