Picking a wedding commissioner

Chantelle, on October 21, 2020 at 00:03 Posted in Wedding ceremony 0 7
My fiancé and I are getting married in August 2022. We are both non religious and I’m wondering how others have gone about picking a wedding commissioner to officiate the ceremony.
What are some good questions I can ask commissioners when I contact them?
What are some other tips people have for picking a wedding officiate? Any advice helps!

All seasons have Officiants from all over Canada depending on what you want to have for your service of religious/non-religious aspects customizing to your best suit. Getting to know your Officiant is good and to know he/she will be working with you to make your day special.

Hi there, We got married back in September. My husband and I are both not religious, but still really wanted a personal touch or our ceremony. We didnt want a stranger to marry us. We did a little bit of a work around. We asked a long time family friend to conduct the ceremony (totally acted like the officiant, did a reading, instructed us to exchange rings/ vows, the whole thing) then we stepped aside with a licensed officiant who signed our papers and quickly asked us the legally required questions. After that we had our friend introduce us as husband and wife and kiss the bride. No one even knew the actual officiant was there. She came and went so quickly. It was perfect and felt really personal, and our family friend was overjoyed to be asked! Just an idea if you cant find an officient that you love.

My fiance and I are also getting married in BC. Since we live in Alberta, it was very difficult not being able to get together with people in person to see if they would be a good fit. But we were recommended by our venue a few of their best ones that they've had for other weddings. So we started with that and even looked at all of the reviews online and such. When I had emailed our potential Pastor, he had given us a package with all of his information on what he does and all of the different kinds of weddings he does Traditional based Wedding and Contemporary based Wedding etc. We knew right after we had read the packages he has to offer, we wanted to have him conduct our wedding. I always say to go with your gut!

Ask them about their personal style, how they conduct ceremonies, any particular things they say or do on the day of, if they perform any special rites or symbolic gestures. You can also request if they have video of past ceremonies to get a sense of what your event may feel like.
