Photo's

Kayla, on March 2, 2020 at 14:56 Posted in Wedding reception 0 5

Hey Ladies,

How long does it typically take for formal photo's? I am all about the first look but my FH wants to have that moment when I walk down the aisle. I have asked my photographer who said she would only need an hour but I just don't think that is enough time. I'm talking bride/groom, bridal party, parents/family pictures. I don't want to have a huge cocktail hour while we are off taking pictures.

We are leaving about 3 hours total including travel to another location and back for the photos.

I don't know if one hour is long enough, especially if you have a large family. For our wedding we approximately 3 hours by the end of the ceremony to the beginning of cocktail hour. I noted on our reception timeline that the grand entrance will be a half hour into cocktail hour in case we ran late, if not we just have some extra time to relax before we head into the hall.

We did all photos that didn’t have both me and my husband in them before the ceremony (ex. photos of me with parents)

We were able to do our wedding party photos, photos with our extended families and the photos of the two of us together in about an hour and fifteen minutes. Just be organized with what photos you want and appoint someone to gather and organize family members for photos so you aren’t waiting on people to gather.

Personally I don't think an hour is long enough... I would say 2 hours but it's nicer to have a little longer than that so you don't feel rushed.

I think an hour to hour and a half is pretty standard. You can get some of the bride/bridesmaids and groom/groomsmen shots before the ceremony to save a little time. Also shots with you and some of your family and him with his (the first look with your dad/parents!) can be done before the ceremony so that you only need blended family and entire wedding party shots for group photos after the ceremony.

My fiance and I will also be sneaking out during the dance to get some night time photos, so you could do that if you missed anything earlier on.
