Photographer? What is that?

Allene, on June 8, 2018 at 23:28 Posted in Before the wedding 0 21

Thinking about just saying screw it on hiring a photographer and just getting a bunch of disposable cameras for everyone to just sort of go nuts with! I can't fork out 2 grand for some fancy wedding photography that someone could replicate with an iphone.. I had my engagement photos taken on an iphone 5! LOL!!! They turned out 100%

Fiance's sister's IPhone 5 engagement photo shoot! LMAO! Cause we aren't minimalists or anythingPhotographer? What is that? 1

This is specially true if the reception runs into the night. Point and shoot cameras are not great for low-light situations.

If you look hard enough, you could find photographers for less than 2 grand. My friend who's also engaged booked her photographer for around $1100 and she's pretty excited for it.

If you do decide to go with disposable cameras, remember that you get what you pay for and it's a risk you're taking, so you might end up with amazing pictures or so-so pictures.

Definitely personal preference. A fair warning, some places don't develop disposable cameras anymore.. I know the Walmarts near me, stopped doing that.

We decided to go with a photographer, as we want to make sure certain shots are captured. I've heard of people not getting shots of the important things when leaving it up to guests.

I think you need to go with whatever feels most comfortable to you. I agree that photography costs are slightly ridiculous. We were lucky that we have family friends who are photographers and they were gifted to us.

Kudos to you on straying from the norm!

    It's all personal preference!

For me personally, my photographer is one of the most important parts of my day. I'd rather cut out something else if it came down to it. If you're okay with iPhone photos, then I think that's great Smiley smile

The nice part about it all is that we all get to choose and do what we prefer!

Be careful with just leaving out disposal cameras for the guests. I have heard from people who tried this and they had guests who ended up taking the cameras home and the couple never got any pictures from them. I would suggest looking into student photographers or asking a friend if you have any amateur photographers in your group.

I was also going to suggest family members with good cameras!

We also got a great deal on our photographer! 1hr+ engagement with photographer + assistant. 2 photographers day of wedding no time limit. All rights to all photos, professionally edited. $1700.
We absolutely love photos (have the hanging on the walls and all sorts, so we will have several on the walls as well as our parents want medium/large copies for their walls too! Plus with the baby we will also get beautiful family photos we will want to hang up at least one on the wall!

Have you called your local colleges that have photography programs? Usually you can grab an up and coming photographer and they will charge much less since they don't have an active business, but still get some pretty incredible photos.

We aren’t getting a photographer. We aren’t going to spend $2000 when we know we will just end up hanging one photo we get from it. And then the rest will sit in album somewhere and never really looked at. And yes we know this will happen (2nd wedding for both).

Yes I got great photos from my first wedding. But I can’t see spending that much for pictures.

We could go on a nice vacation for that price and make more memories together. We have multiple friends and family members who have very good cameras (not phones). They will be taking photos and giving us all the digital copies for us to make a couple photo books with.

Then my finace and I can use that $2000 we would have spent, go on a cruise and get some amazing photos taken then lol. Seriously our favourite photo of us is one that a cruise ship photographer took of us. 😁. Photos plus a vacation!!!

I don't blame you for turning down any photographer. The pictures will be memorable to have from each table.

    True!
Some people who do a lot of scrapbooking or art will have some idea of framing a picture but still not the same league as a professional.
Allene, if disposal cameras id what you want to do though, go for it!

I am curious what the difference in price is you found between the professional vs. Buying all the disposal cameras and the development cost too for all them afterwards. Might consider adding this to my last minute emeegebcy plan for photography if needed, because life can happen...lol

Nice engagement photo. I'm having a difficult time finding a photographer. The main issue is the expense just because it's a wedding. Highly considering letting my sister do the photos but there's a lot of doubt there. Ugh still deciding this one.

    Totally understandable.

We managed to find an affordable photographer through WW and used a WW discount.

We also considered booking one for a shorter period of time to help reduce costs.
The disposable camera idea is a good one, but remember to collect all of them at the end of the celebration.

And there are apps where your guests can instantly upload their photos so you ensure they’re put into one spot.

Let is know how it turns out!

Being an amateur photographer myself I can see the benefit to having a photographer. As mentioned lighting is a big thing, sometimes iPhones wont be able to do what a professional camera can do. It also helps get the shots with the proper lighting. We recently had our engagement shoot and it was good to have them to make sure we didn’t have a dumpster in the photo and or a tree growing out of my head. Also the quality of printing an iPhone is limited to so many pixals and can making larger prints harder. I can totally understand wanting to save money and I do like the disposable camera idea. I would also suggest maybe finding a family member who has a decent digital camera to take a few photos at the wedding.

Our photographer although it’s costing 2200 we got a 2 hour engagement shoot with 2 photographers. We will get 2 photographers for 12 hours on our wedding day. We will also get a post wedding shoot for 2 hours for just the two of us. The photos we get will be edited and we will have full printing rights to the images. I also love the creativity of the shots my photographer takes, we had our two dogs in our shoot and he was working on getting them relaxed. My thoughts are it’s your wedding day and you choose what works best for you. Just remember the wedding day only happens once and as long as your sure you won’t look back and wish you had a photographer either professional or amatuer then I say go for it.

It is a great idea. Personally, I agree that a professional cannot be replaced by quantity of cameras and people. Photographers know how to account if things are off (lighting, etc) that generally people don't.
It is a fun idea and definitely has the up side that you could have a bunch of different angles for one moment versus one or two.

Sent before I could add this..I absolutely LOVE disposable cameras at weddings for guests to take pictures front heir view and what they are doing. it's so cool because you don't always get to see how the guests are enjoying your wedding and what they were who to, to having their pictures is one of the best ways to do that! Hire a professional or not, that should definitely be on the list to do!

I disagree with the statement of an iPhone being anywhere comparable to a professional photographer but it's definitely a money saver, and it's your wedding so go for it!
